Quill dog and I had another morning cross country ski today, this time out at Prosser Reservoir not too far from my house. While out there, we saw this bird of prey enjoying it's lunch in a old dead pine tree. Other birds were bugging it, trying to steal a bite. It was a fun scene to watch for a while.
I eventually decided to get out the Canon camera and take a few photos. My only problem, I'm horrible at identifying birds so I have no idea if it's a red tail hawk, osprey, or young bald eagle that hasn't got it's adult colors yet...
Shot with a Canon 5DS R and a 24-105mm lens, set at 105. It was a handheld shot, with no filters. ISO 200, 1/500 of a second exposure, and the lens aperture was f/9. The image below is a heavily cropped section of the photo above.
It was a fun ski, great exercise, and the birds provided a little extra entertainment. The snow is finally melting fast out there so I'm not sure how many more times I'll be able to cross country ski the area. We might have to stick to higher elevations for the rest of the season.
Here's the Strava map, I've been recording our trips and I seem to be getting faster and going further lately.
The lakes and reservoirs that have been frozen over are starting to thaw. There is still lots of ice out there but I would not walk on it at this point. No more ice fishing...
It may still be a while before anyone will be using these camp sites below. In the summer, Prosser Reservoir can be a great place to camp. It's not as popular as Lake Tahoe or Donner Lake so there are a lot less people. Ahhh, I'm really looking forward to warmer weather and camping season...
Thanks for looking and I hope you are all having a great day!
