Yesterday was a fun evening.
My wife’s sister was celebrating her 42nd birthday, so she invited us to have a good time together.
We went—me, my wife, and our younger son.
First, we went to Zadar, which is about 70 km from our home and where my wife’s sister lives.
Then we went to a bowling club. It was my first time ever being in such a place.
Here in Dalmatia we usually have boće (bocce), and the game is called boćanje.
Everyone has two balls, which can be made of wood or concrete, and there is a small ball called the buli.
The goal is to get your balls as close to it as possible. It’s played outdoors on gravel.
But this version—with large, heavy balls, knocking down pins, all indoors in a warm space—I had never tried before, and it was really great.
There were seven of us in total.
After the fun, which lasted an hour and a half (that’s how long we had paid for), we went to a restaurant called Batak Grill, where my wife’s sister had reserved a table for the seven of us.
We ordered three gourmet meat platters, potatoes with three kinds of cheese, flatbreads, side salads, and various sauces.
Everything was absolutely delicious, and the staff were more than kind and helpful.
We stayed there a little over two hours, and then, with full stomachs, we headed home.
Since I had drunk two beers, my wife drove because she had only had juice.
We got home almost at 1 a.m., but I had so much energy that I could have stayed out until morning.
We’ve already agreed that next month we’ll go bowling again, just without dinner, because it was really nice and fun.
The kids especially enjoyed it, while I and my wife’s sister’s husband competed a bit to see who could knock down more pins—and of course, win. A little rivalry is always a good thing.
