Dragon's Eye
Today we are in Rogoznica, a place about 40 km from my house. My wife, younger son, and I went to visit the Dragon's Eye. It's one of the landmarks of this area and well-known throughout Dalmatia.
It's incredibly fascinating and marvelous.
The name "Dragon's Eye" comes from its elliptical shape, which fascinates even scientists, and over the years, many have studied it.
They explored the lake and dived into its underwater caves. They say the depth of the lake itself is 15 meters, slightly more in some places. It's connected to the sea by a cave, partly visible in one of the photos, as the cave's opening is at the water's surface, known as the Dragon's Ear.
You can also see the rim around it, now slightly dried up due to a lack of significant rain for a long time, causing the lake level to drop by about 1.5 meters.
One legend says the lake was formed by a meteorite impact, which explains its shape.
I've included an aerial photo taken by my friend with a drone several years ago, which was used in some newspapers and portals because it's beautiful.
Many houses have been built around the lake, mostly owned by foreigners with higher purchasing power.
Every few years, the water in the lake gets murky, and all the animals migrate to the sea, returning once it clears up.
Even scientists don't yet know why this happens, but to me, it's fascinating.
I hope you'll enjoy the photographs I took from various angles of the Dragon's Eye.
