No, these are not the popular now "digital nomads", to whom the whole world is their home. But the most real, in the original sense of the word, nomads who live on a large, but limited territory, roaming it with their herds. And now they have become a little more modern — do you see what this Nenets (in quite traditional, hand-sewn clothes and shoes) has in his hands? :)
Their herds of reindeer have remained almost the same as in the old days: they graze in winter in the mountains of the polar Urals, and in summer they roam with people and their mobile homes from pasture to pasture across the plains and foothills.
But now they force the herd to move from place to place while moving on snowmobiles :) After all, this is much more convenient and faster.
I like this fusion of tradition and modernity and I like that at least some peoples mostly preserve their way of life, but at the same time they still try to take something good and useful from modern civilization.
I don't know if I could live in chum, walk mostly in clothes made of reindeer skins, heat the stove every day and transport my house along with all my belongings from place to place every few weeks, butcher my reindeer for meat with my own hands — and all this in the era of supermarkets with food and non-food items, all kinds of building materials or clothing, the availability of electricity and the Internet... But they can, and I admire these modern nomads.
It's better to watch the photos in high resolution.
