We did not expect to see the Northern Lights on Mount Krestovaya in the vicinity of the Kandalaksha town when we were there. We just went to the mountain before sunset, which, by the way, turned out to be quite good with clear, delicate colors of the sky — you could see it in the photos from the previous post.
The Aurora forecast did not promise anything remarkable, only very weak magnetic disturbances, and besides, we were quite close to the town. Having stayed on the mountain until dark, when the last sunset light had faded long ago, we were about to go down, when we suddenly noticed a faint stripe of a greenish glow on the camera screen.
The descent down was canceled and we began to wait: maybe Aurora will flare up and flood the entire sky? For a long time it was just one long arc, low above the horizon, which curved slightly from time to time. But closer to the night, lights still became more interesting: several arcs appeared, some swirls and patterns in the sky. Not the most impressive Northern Lights I've seen in my life, but still it was nice, wasn't it? :)
It's better to watch the photo in high resolution.
