I was planning to publish those photos two weeks ago to participate in the photo contest by , but I got delayed. With barely any time left for this week's contest, I will have to be brief when showing my photos I took in the nearby park.
This week's topic is an important one for any photographer - the rule of thirds. I don't follow the rule blindly, and I like breaking it regularly. In my picture for the contest, I put the main subject in the centre of the frame. At the same time, at the right-hand third of the frame, I put the park light which creates the warm glow shining through the dry seeds of the maple. The same photo both follows and breaks the rule.
I took an alternative one, as well - maple seeds at the thirds and the light in the centre of the frame. And... umm... no... It's kind of okay but I don't like it much, either.
At the time I took those photos, it was quite cold and there was plenty of frost.
There are many of those beautiful yellow-glowing lights throughout the park.
It was giving a warm feeling in the otherwise freezing weather. However, when I came home, it was really hard to set the white balance right. They look either too green or too magenta... or way too yellow...
It looked as if some of the lights were green... yet look at the pink sky...
This street light is mostly neutral but the sky is again magenta.
I tried turning the magenta-green tint slider down and it still looks really bad.
The warmth looked pretty against the branches of the pine.
I tested also making it completely neutral but its character is gone.
