Mono shots on a walk downtown in New Bedford
I am sticking with my Mono images for a Monday and this week I am taking a walk in the Historic District of Downtown New Bedford
Starting with this photo of a statue outside the library that was made by the Lewis Temple Memorial Sculptor James C. Toatley and dedicated in 1987

Lewis Temple (1800-1854), was a free black man and owner of a local blacksmith shop by 1836, in 1948 he invented the Temple Toggle Iron, a pivot-head harpoon which revolutionized the whaling industry. it shows a a six-foot statue of Lewis Temple, wearing a working-man’s apron, looking at a harpoon that he has been working on.
Next up perhaps not so historically significant for the city one of the old street lights, I normally would keep this in color because of the green colors of the light surrounds, but I thought it came across nicely in mono and fitted wit this post

And next up we have a close in shot of the Whaleman Statue by Sculptor Bela Lyon Pratt and installed in 1913

The Whaleman, was a gift to New Bedford by William W. Crapo to the City of New Bedford, it stands on on Library Square a busy part of downtown so it is seen daily by many passers by.
New Bedford has a big Whaling history and its great that the memory of those times is kept alive with statues such as this.
I think this Sculpture showing the Whaler at the from of the boat, ready to try and spear the whale highlights the tough times it was for whalers back then,
Next up we have this bell stands proudly downtown it was installed I believe in 1976 a gift from the Greater New Bedford Veterans council
The plaque below it reads
In heartfelt gratitude and remembrance of all those veterans of all wars and conflicts who gave their lives that this bell might ring out in freedom
