The calm after the storm
Last Tuesday night and Wednesday we had a storm come through, I wasn't expecting to much to be honest as the weather forecasters were saying rain and winds gusting to 45 mph, it wasn't much when I went to bed on Wednesday night, but I was woken a couple of times to heavy rain and the wind pelting against the house, When the sun started to rise on Thursday morning I looked outside and saw branches down on our street and leaves blowing all over.
I had a scan scheduled at the medical clinic at 9 so I headed out at about 8:30 and on the drive to the clinic I had to detour a couple of times, with either trees or powerlines blocking the roads I wanted to pass.
I thought to myself at the time the wind had to be stronger that they predicted to do all this damage and later read, the winds in our area actually hit hurricane force at 95mph which made the damage I saw more understandable.
Many lost power in the storm, I think it was over 400 Thousand properties, but we were fortunate and had power all the time.
These photos show some damage in a park, but doesnt really represent how much damage was done around the area, many boats in the marina were damaged and some sunk.
Wednesday it was rainy and windy most of the day, and was still gusting to 35 mph on Thursday morning, but after lunch on Thursday after not getting out for a walk for a few days I decided to get out for a short walk and went to Buttonwood Park not far from home.
And will share a few shots of some of the damage I saw in this post.
I parked by the pond with the plan to get a few shots of the fall colors around the pond even though it was cloudy and gray ( see last photo) and then walked through the park to get some steps in., Walking beside the pond I saw a few branches down but nothing to much, but when I started to walk into the park I came across this tree or tree limb that was down and had damaged the fence.

and a little further along another limb down

I spent a lot of time walking on the field as in many places the footpaths were covered with branches down

As these next two photos show, in some cases not only a few branches but whole trees were snapped in half

In the cemetery behind where we live I can see even more trees down but i havent taken a stroll through there.
I thought this storm would have blown away all the fall colors but was pleasantly surprised to see some colors still around the pond, not the best of shots, but it was grey and moody at the time which I think this last photo shows
