I've been to Singapore a few times already, aside from the delicious and diverse cuisines it offers, the place has a very distinct architecture. I have never dreamed of living in a city, I have always wanted the rural life. But Singapore's advocation of a "green city" is changing my perception that there's no place that offers a great balance between the urban and rural lifestyle. We were roaming along the streets for a casual photowalk when we came across this building, which turns out to be a hotel, the famous PARKROYAL on Pickering.
It has towering columns and unusual geometry for what seems to be some plant boxes, the greens that accentuate the facade of the building. The looks of it tells me that a forest somehow grew from within, the over-all dull gray color of the building seems so alive because of that growing forest.
Looking carefully at the details remind me of the rice terraces from our country (Philippines), people living in the mountains carve slopes into terraces to plant rice.
From right below the entrance of the building, those rice terraces looking plant boxes look more like islands attached between a usual hotel building. What makes this hotel's architecture more amazing is that it's really huge, it makes you feel so small.
It was difficult to move on from that spot during our photowalk, I was just really mesmerize on the unusual beauty of this hotel. It's been 3 years since I last visited this country, surely, a lot of things have changed. There are probably more stunning architecture to be seen and adored. But for now, this hotel building holds the top spot of my list.
