The best photos we have are in our minds. They're there, somewhere, simply...and they are our personal archive. No one can touch it...no one can see it. Massimo Conti
Today I thought to share with you a real interesting and amazing engineering of the communist times, namely Vidraru Lake and Vidraru Dam in my coutry Romania.
On the Romanian territory there are a large number of lakes, either accumulation or natural, these water holes give a special look to each landscape, representing a tourist potential for the place where it is located.
Vidraru is the deepest accumulation lake in Romania, being a man-made lake, Vidraru Lake was created in 1965 on the Arges river for the production of hydroelectricity.
The size of the lake is amazing, but at the same time the beauty of the surrounding landscapes are amazing.
The maximum water depth is 155 meters near the curved dam 166 m high, with a length of 307 meters. The volume of water is 465 million cubic meters.
However, it was built with great human sacrifices (about 80 people died) between 1961 and 1966.
Some witnesses of that time still talk about what is on the bottom of Lake Vidraru and how an entire area was condemned to extinction.
Some legends speak of people who perished under water after the lake filled, because they refused to leave their homes.
Now there are only legends of the world under the waters of the lake.
Extreme sports can be practiced on Vidraru Dam, here being arranged the highest launching pad for bungee jumping.
A few hundred meters from the Dam is the pier, from where recreational boat trips are organized.
A special area for recreation.
