Sometimes I think about whether we really live to exist or we exist to live and they are two very similar things, but to analyze them deeply and I mean if we exist to really live the life we want in the place we want and how we want it or if we live because we simply exist without knowing the reason and without doing absolutely nothing to find out or without doing absolutely nothing to change that reality, dreaming or living the dream life of other people without taking the first step to change parameters of our day to day. And that is when I sit down to think about this and other reflections of everything that life gives us, we let go and grab, let go and appropriate, thank and devalue, etc. and so on and so forth.
I write these lines in this philosophical way because when I took these photos, it was at a time in my life when I was opening a new door, with many inexperiences, my first times in many things, both in photography and in the way of living independently, with the help of myself and many other things that were strong in my life and from that moment there was a before and an after.
A before and an after at a professional level, or maybe I don't know if I should call it professional because the teaching I could have with respect to photography was more personal practice, than professional theory dictated by professionals (redundancy) and that is when after many things, I realize that everything is in the constancy that you can have, in the daily practice, in losing the fear of the unknown to then build your own experiences and even your own teachings based on what you yourself were able to discover in the past that worked for you in the present and you knew how to keep it to share it with others in the future.
There are so many things I could say based on life at sea, based on life alone learning new things, launching yourself into the inexplicable, but enjoying the process, enjoying every day, every photograph taken, every new effect you learn with shot after shot of your camera and I am realistic and sincere when I tell you that you come to love it, to value it, to want it, to understand it, to excuse it and to humanize it because you manage to complement it in such a way that it becomes like a third eye in your life.
The camera becomes a part of you, of your life documentation, of your own life, of your memories, of your experiences. And yes, believe me when I tell you that everything is connected in this life, everything you did with passion, everything you achieved in the past with vocation and you continue it in the present and in the future, will become part of you, will talk about you and I could even say that there are photographs that without the need to explain them, can make you cry, laugh, reflect, dislike, fear and many more things.
That's what photography and the sea are about, what can I tell you about the sea, it's a path that begins, expands, travels, connects and returns to you. All my life I have had respect for the sea, but I have adored it, appreciated it, admired it, photographed it and it is a place that can be a place of terror or peace, but everything is in how you approach it in your life, in how you really want it to be for you, that piece in the way and of course it is, this happens in life in mountains, city, cold, heat, sea, deserts, etc..
In the end it's all about connecting with what gives you peace and feeds your desire to live to the fullest in this life. It doesn't matter if you are a professional photographer or a crazy passionate about documenting your life, the important thing is to enjoy it to the fullest and always see beyond what is around you and well, that's what I've been implementing in my day to day life for years.
Be like the waves of the sea, that even when breaking against the rocks, find the strength to start again.
