Freelensing is like a painting. Just instead of a paintbrush, I use one of the old and real, manual lenses. As usual, it is Asahi M42 not coated 50 or 35mm glass that I don't attach to the camera body, but instead of attaching, just hold it in my hand very close to the camera sensor. I put my 5dMKii to the manual settings and live view with the goal to block the mirror in the opened position and be able to prefocus and to pre-compose with the display of my camera.

It takes some time to set the right focusing distance and appropriate for the needed results aperture settings - high Aperture for the blade focused less focused details in the resulting frame, and lower Aperture if I would like to bring more distance and less blurred objects.

One of the big disadvantages of freelensing genre of photography is the open spaces between the lens and the camera, so the dust is can freely penetrate the sensor of the camera. One of the big advantages of Freelensing is the light leaks that freely reach the sensor and creates the awesome colorful circles and pyramides of the light.
