Oh Yes - Some more water drop collision splash art. Beach umbrellas, Mermaids and Wne glass splashes...
I experimented with everything and had one of the best days while it rained outside and I got stuck at home.
There is something fascinating about the shapes and visuals we can create with just couple of water drops colliding with each other.
Water - it can take any form!!
As I have mentioned in my previous posts, collisions of water drops, captured in a camera at high shutter speeds that freeze motion, show us some amazing shapes. Controlled and predictable collisions of course, take a bit of effort. As I have described earlier, I built my own water drop controller rig with a microprocessor (an Arduino Uno) and couple of solenoids.
I can experiment with my rig to release drops at different times (controlled in milliseconds) and catch collisions at different phases during the fall.
I created many different splash collision images by using various backgrounds, colors, flash color gels etc. I also used varying exposures and flash power settings to create these effects.
Without much further ado, I will present the images and let them speak for themselves... The images are actual clicks and NOT photoshopped.
A beach umbrella of water drop collisions!
This is one of the most stunning images I have produced directly from my camera without any manipulations. The yellow and green water drops created this fabulous umbrella shaped collision and I decided to recreate a beach scene complete with reflection, waves and a sunset background!
Mushrooms on the beach too! 😀
This image was a by-product as I was trying to adjust the collision of the drops to get the umbrella shape! LOL. It looks cute all the same -doesn't it?
A mermaid or a Siren on the beach ??
Though controlled there is always a randomness involved in dropping and colliding water drops. This mermaid was a result of one of the drops landing slightly to the side of the rebound water column....
City lights mushroom of water drops !
The bokeh of lights of the city through the window also makes an extremely interesting backdrop. I clicked this collision against that backdrop...
How about some splashing wine!!!
Well, after getting tired of playing around with water drops, a glass of wine may be called for. I ended up playing 'Splash art' even with the wine!!
The possibilities are just endless for this form of photography. Photography is my passion and I am typically an amateur wildlife photographer. However, the creativity of stalwarts like and
inspires me to try out different forms of photography.
I am a bit of a nerd and love mixing technology with my photography. Therefore, such Techno-Art, if I may call it that, is right down my alley and I really enjoy it
These images convinces me that through technology of high speed photography, we can create art!!
I hope these beautiful images can be used by everyone to emphasize the importance of even a drop of water and spread the message to save water!
Do you think geeky things like high speed photography and arduino based water drop control can produce art? I think so and I am really enjoying it - Was all the effort worth it? Have you tried something like this? I look forward to suggestions and shared experiences from our expert community members.

Please comment freely and let me know your opinion. I will try to bring many different types of wildlife photos/macro/Astro posts to the community. Feedback and comments are welcome,. I am still learning many techniques and always value feedback from experts in this community.
Have a nice day everyone. Cheers!
