If men were meant to fly we would have been born with either feathers and wings or at the very least parachutes that pop out of our butts. - Author: John Zakour
Since I have neither the wings nor the butt-parachute, all I can do is gaze longingly at the birds the just wing it (literally!😀) when they feel like it. I capture those fantastic flying moments of freedom in my camera...
Birds, especially raptors like eagles never cease to amaze me with their graceful wings. There is something majestic in seeing them spread against a lovely background of sky and clouds...
Oriental honey buzzard flight
This honey buzzard was a picture of calmness as it floated overhead on a wintery morning against a sky with wispy white clouds. It did not flap it's wings at all...
Even more amazing and powerful is this eagle which I captured soaring in a green valley. I was lucky to be high up on a mountain so I could get it at eye level..
Crested hawk eagle flight
Of course, it does not have to be a large bird of prey like an eagle to be beautiful in flight. This tiny minivet was beautiful too. Just see it's glorious wings..
Small minivet flight
Apart from flight shots (which are exciting in themselves), sometimes I have been lucky to see even more amazing things in the sky. Once I captured this sky battle between a Kite and a Sea eagle. The sea eagle did a mid-flight roll, like a modern fighter jet and tried to catch the kite in it's talons!
Battle in the sky - inverted roll!
I have also been lucky to get some beautiful full wing spread spans of a powerful Bonellie's eagle that can lift a dog or small mammals!
Bonelli's eagle - the powerful hunter
An last but not the least, sometimes I get the opportunity to capture on camera these colorful blue bee-eaters as they take off or land. It is as if someone threw some colors in the sky!
It is not easy to capture a flying birds in a zoom lens and I immensely enjoyed capturing all the shots in this post. I had to be patient and keep trying to take these shots time and again. Hope you enjoyed seeing them.
