To give you an idea of the size of these droplets all you need is to look at what they are on. if you look close enough you can see the woven fibres of a canvas! well, these arent big droplets they are in fact morning dew gathering underneath a tarpaulin.
Usually to zoom in this close you would need to fork out and buy something decent however this photograph was taken with a standard canon 18-55m kit lens.
THE SECRET?
its called a lens reverse adapter and i got mine for $7 - what it does is it acts as a mount for your lens, effectively allowing you to attach it backwards. If you have never tried this i can tell you right now, it is alot of fun!
Of course there are a few hurdles - firstly you lose digital contact with the camera and this means a few things the biggest of which is that you have no way to set aperture. You can get around this by locking the aperture with the lens on the right way around and then reversing the lens with the aperture locked in place. (alternatively there are reverse mounts that have the digital contacts) but hey.. i like my budget photography!
it definitely takes a while to get used to.
A few other interesting effects the reverse lens has is that it takes light in differently. the first photograph is with flash, it is completely unedited and the golden red glow was pure luck.
you can also get some great blur and bokeh type effect as the depth of field is reduced massively.
Below are a few more examples of reverse lens photography i hope you enjoy :)
