My private Jukebox + Rising Star Giveaway (Starbits+NFTs) - Stone Sour - Debut Studio Album (EN/DE)

A few weeks (or rather months) ago I did a survey on the Rising Star Discord to see what content you were interested in for giveaway posts.

With today's post I'm starting again to give away Rising Star NFTs and Starbits every now and then. In the posts I either write little anecdotes from my active time as a music manager, in which I reveal a few dirty backstage secrets 😈, sometimes about historical events in music history or simply my favorite artists from my daily playlist and what experiences I associate with them.

To take part in the competition, you have to answer a question that is related to the written text. Other or incorrect answers do not entitle you to take part in the raffle.

I will always write these posts when I feel like it. The subsequent raffle always takes place before the next post goes online and the winner is announced in it.

I'd like to start with a band from my playlist that had a big impact on my 30s: Stone Sour and their self-titled debut album from 2002.

Some interesting facts about the album:

• Writing for the album began in 2000, when singer Corey Taylor and guitarist Jim Root were still active in their other band Slipknot
• Before the album's release, the track "Bother" was featured on the soundtrack to the movie Spider-Man; however, it was only credited to Corey Taylor.
• Stone Sour received generally positive reviews. Most critics compared it to singer Taylor and guitarist Root's other band Slipknot. Reviewing the album, Don Kaye wrote, "It's rare that a musician is given another platform for his talents that proves to be equal to his full-time band," and stated that Stone Sour was one such case
• The album's most melodic track, "Bother," received special attention from most critics. Modzelewski said the track "seems to be the song the album has been preparing everyone for," adding that Taylor proves "that he's a legitimate singer who doesn't have to rely on destroying his vocal cords to make a good song"
• In 2003, Stone Sour's first single from the album, "Get Inside," was nominated for Best Metal Performance at the 45th Grammy Awards. On March 20, 2003, Stone Sour was certified gold in the United States. The following year, the album's third single, "Inhale", was also nominated for Best Metal Performance at the 46th Grammy Awards.

I've chosen my three favorite tracks from the album here, which I'd like to introduce to you in more detail:

• Get Inside

It's the opening track of the album and the first music video the band ever released. It's on my personal "KickAss" Spotify list, which I listen to in the morning to get myself in the mood for the day :)

• Bother

The song was originally released as a solo song by frontman Corey Taylor, but the name was later changed to Stone Sour. The song was one of Stone Sour's first songs to bring them into the mainstream. The cover features Taylor's hands and rings, one of which is a Spider-Man ring, alluding to the song being on the soundtrack to the Spider-Man movie (although the song is credited to Taylor as the performer, not Stone Sour) and that Taylor is a fan of Spider-Man. The other features the number eight, which represents Taylor's number in Slipknot.

Corey Taylor has publicly stated that he was in a very dark place when he wrote Bother, and the song is a reflection of the nihilism and loneliness that depression embodies. It's safe to assume that his depression had destroyed his self-esteem and he started picking apart his "flaws," whatever his poisoned brain thought his flaws were. It could also refer to the isolation he felt when he was labeled a "loner" or "sad/depressed guy."

• Tumult

I haven't analyzed this song much. But it made it into my gym playlist because it might make me do one more rep than usual 😆

Vor einigen Wochen (oder eher Monaten) habe ich im Rising Star Discord eine Umfrage gemacht, an welchem Content ihr für Giveaway Posts interessiert seid.

Mit dem heutigen Post starte ich wieder damit, hin und wieder Rising Star NFTs und Starbits zu verschenken. Auf dem anderen ist die Zahl Acht, die Taylors Nummer in Slipknot darstellt.

Corey Taylor hat öffentlich erklärt, dass er sich an einem sehr dunklen Ort befand, als er Bother schrieb, und das Lied ist eine Widerspiegelung des Nihilismus und der Einsamkeit, die Depressionen verkörpern. Es ist davon auszugehen, dass seine Depression sein Selbstwertgefühl zerstört hatte und er hat angefangen, seine „Fehler“ auseinanderzunehmen, was auch immer sein vergiftetes Gehirn für seine Fehler hielt. Es könnte sich auch auf die Isolation beziehen, die er fühlte, als er als „Einzelgänger“ oder „trauriger/depressiver Typ“ abgestempelt wurde.

• Tumult

Diesen Song habe ich nicht gross analysiert. Aber er hat es in meine Gym-Playliste geschafft, weil er vielleicht dafür sorgt, dass ich eine Wiederholung mehr mache als sonst 😆
