The national culture of any country is one of the most beautiful things there is, as it distinguishes each country from the rest and makes each person unique. In the country where Desmond lives, this is no exception. In his own country, one of the most important cultures is music, as it is related to history, art, and much more. Desmond is someone who values his roots deeply and always looks for ways to promote them and keep them alive with others and with new generations. In his case, he demonstrates this through the conga drums. He plays these two drums to bring his culture to life.
People often see him at his town's main festivals or even interviewed on television, giving talks about preserving his culture and how it can keep everyone's identity alive. He is not a rich man, nor does he need to be. He is someone who is always content with what he has and doesn't get upset about not having something expensive. And this is demonstrated in his music. When he plays the conga drums, he prefers to sing national songs that speak of not being proud and wishing well for everyone. That's why many have grown fond of him. He's an exemplary person.

But Desmond has a deep concern. He's seen how, over time, young people and those no longer so young are losing the tradition of playing the congas. Before, there was always someone playing on every corner and at every party. But now it's very rare to see anyone listening to or playing national music. So he's concerned about this situation. He has dedicated his life to preserving his people's culture; this isn't new. He wants to do something to get people interested in national music again. But what can he do? That's the question.
Since he doesn't have a lot of resources, he turns to some friends to see what ideas they have. Most of them explained that he should recognize that even if he wants to preserve musical traditions, it won't always be possible, as times change and people prefer other tastes. But they didn't discourage him; what they recommended was that he find a way to merge traditions with modernity so that everything adapts to the new generations. He thought that was a good idea, and he also agreed with the other point.
He then spoke to his son Lucas for some advice and to see how he could do things while merging the traditional with the modern. His son recommended that he collaborate with current bands, making conga playing a central part of his music. That way, he could attract a younger audience and continue the musical tradition, but from a different perspective.

And that's precisely what Desmond did. He began partnering with the town's musicians and some more prominent ones. Together, he prepared some presentations to give in the town and also traveled to other nearby areas to share this new version of traditional music, and they received support. That same weekend, they collaborated for the first time. He did it with a group called FIX, which played salsa music. Desmond proposed creating a version of a traditional song adapted to salsa, with his conga line as the centerpiece. They thought it was ingenious, but they also saw his intentions and what he wanted to achieve with all this. That's why they supported him even more. The result of that collaboration was a huge success. Many people loved the fusion of the old with the new. And Desmond had a lot of fun.
This event was so significant that even the press came to cover it. Never before had such an event been done with such traditional music as the one he made. The result was thousands of people asking for it to be repeated. Even young people who didn't like the music, seeing how well it sounded fused with other music, began asking for more and sending letters to Desmond's home urging him to do another performance soon. But Desmond recognized that traveling from town to town would be difficult and expensive. So he needed another way to share this new cultural fusion with other musical genres, but one that was more global and without having to travel across the country.

The idea came again from his son Lucas when he found out what he wanted to do. He recommended opening an internet channel and uploading the collaboration videos there so that all the young people in the country could watch them without having to travel. Desmond saw this as a golden opportunity and jumped at the chance. He immediately began sending requests to other singers and uploading new collaborations. Again, everyone liked it because it was a very innovative type of music that had never been seen before. It was even gaining international attention. Desmond was deeply satisfied and decided to continue fighting to preserve his culture until the end.
