Back in 2018, I did some Google Searches, as to the number of deaths, in Australia, into the future.
Due to the aging Baby Boomers, the trend of deaths will increase right up to 2040 - that's when those boomers are no longer around, including, my parents, sadly.
Part of my interest, was in the shortfall that the Gubmint would have in paying out Bureaucratic retirement entitlements during the 2024-2030 years, with a country that already has shaky economics happening. (Not to mention any derivative relationship with other countries in heavy debt, and an aging population.)
The Future Fund is Australia's sovereign wealth fund. We invest for the benefit of future generations of Australians. We were established in 2006 to strengthen the Australian Government's long-term financial position. Every dollar that we make is a dollar that adds to Australia's wealth and contributes to its future.

The Mission Statement provides, a broader scope, than what I recall it was originally created for.
Under the Howard Gubmint, they decided to pocket monies from "selling" Public Utilities, and parking that money into the Future Fund. Governments were then meant to put budget surpluses into the Fund - although, there have not been any further contributions after the first couple.
So, excess deaths, is expected in those Western Countries that experienced a "baby boom" after World War 2.
What Is a Baby Boomer?
"Baby boomer" is a term used to describe a person who was born between 1946 and 1964. The baby boomer generation makes up a substantial portion of the world's population, especially in developed nations.

Anyway, that explains my interest in Excess Deaths back then.
However, now, it is more a curiosity, as to, why are we having a surge in them now?
To me, it should be delved deeper into, beyond, the occassional sidenote by Gubmint, or the Media organisations.
I have my biases.
So, I just recommend anyone who is interested, to do some digging.
That is, iff you are interested.
Read the article.
Ask some questions.
Or don't.
Sometimes, life is simpler that way.
But I like taking a look.
