...
...because as a nutrition technician, our well being and keeping my family healthy is a priority.
Showing and teaching my son how to take care of his health and well being is something I wanted to do the moment I got pregnant haha.
So...here we are now. Caleb is almost 4yrs old and today he was super involved with juicing and this is happening lately because he got interested in Vitamins and Minerals five-six weeks ago, when he watched an episode of Dr. BINOCS called "Why are minerals important". You can google it, we love Dr. Binocs. Its super educational for kids, very appropiate and science explained to kids was never easier.
So from that day, my son kept asking me several times in one day what are minerals and what vitamins do to our body. What is Calcium, Potasium or Iron?
It was my greatest joy being able to explain him these topics. Actually, a few weeks later, I bought more than 10 books on Nutrition for Kids. I'll write another post for that.
Some of the titles are these: Abc.Nutrition for kids, There is a Rainbow in my lunchbox, Big Book of Colorful Foods, Eat your greens, reds, yellows and purples, Eat more colors.
Before this, I didnt really insist teaching him much about nutrition but still, we talked abkut it many many many times.
He knows he have rules on eating. He knows sweets are not good for his health, he knows that he's not allowed having "bad" sweets only on occassion, and more important he understood the concept and accepts it.
You can imagine he is a small kid and like all kids out there, he had cakes, chocolate, bars and all kind of sweets from the supermarket BUT he knows those are not good for us and we dont buy those.
There are so few unhealthy bought sweets that he tried, I can count them on my hands. I always tried to avoid giving him sweets. By the age of two or even three, he didnt know what soda was. We dont buy apple or orange juice for kids, or any of this kind. Very very very rarely, he gets something like that.
Though we bought smoothies in different combination, you know...those for kids.
Anyways, buttom line is that we buy for him only the healthiest versions of sweets and biscuits.
And btw, fruits represent 80-90% of what he eats for sugar intake. He is happy with fruits.
And I always mentioned to him the importance of eating healthy. And all of this counts to this day. When he is happy doing a juice, a healthy juice, as he stated.
Today, he asked me if he can have a fresh orange juice. And I said no. That was only because he had before a few dried apricots and 3 small cacao biscuits. He asked why. I said because you already had a fruit a few minutes ago, meaning apricots.
And his answer was: If I can get an orange juice I wont ask for gingerbread anymore today.
LOL. This kid really knows how to bargain. Actually you have no idea, really!
We did gingerbread at home together, last week, and he is allowed to have 3 of them daily. So...you know what the deal was.
My answer was: Can we add some apples, maybe some lemons too and a small beetroot? He was fine with my proposal so here we are: Juicing! ❤️❤️😁
My son helped with anything. Shredding the carrot was a first actually. I prepared the other ingredients and he started adding them to the juicer. He was really happy and proud for the fact that he's making his own Healthy juice.
We had an orange, one lemon, a few apples (from our garden), one small beetroot (also for from the garden) and one carrot.
In the end, I encouraged him to write the ingredients we used for this juice. Actually he started this before. I helped where he needed, but he wrote the words and didnt really need my help. He asks if he doesnt know how to write or spell one word. He did great though!
The title was, Suc Sanatos meaning Healthy Juice.
This was part of our day! It was a long long day, with lot of chores and stuff in between. Today was actually the day when we first took Caleb to a psychologist to test his IQ. Another story with that too. We'll go again making another test next week.
How was your day? How is your kid responding to healthy foods or health in general?
I'm happy I had some free time before bed, to share this with you. Thank you for reading!
Stay healthy everyone!
