What is up my fellow Weedcash people! So it has been 13 day's since my last update, and there has been a lot of growth since then. It has been 60 days since I started this grow, and it will be a day or two before I flip into flower.
So if you recall I had two successful plants grow out of 4 seeds. When I set up my tent, I transferred one into a living soil mix, and left one in regular soil, so I could do a side by side comparison of living soil with no bottled nutes, and one with reg soil with using bottled nutes. Well unfortunately my living soil subject turned out to be a male, so I made the choice to put outside.
So I was left with one plant in my tent, and really wanted to do a living soil grow. I also did not want to go get a clone, since I was so far along with the Santa's Kandy. So I decided to transplant form a 4 gallon pot into a 7 gallon pot, with the Living Soil mix.
So the choice was made. One plant, in one 32'x32'x54' tent. I had lots of space left, and I sure as heck was not going to let it go to waste. But what shall I do??
Super Cropping
Super cropping is one of my favorite ways to train a plant. The way I do it is, I bend the tops of the plant, and hold down with a twisty tie on the main stem.
It is very simple.
- First make sure the plant has been watered before hand. In my experience I have found that if a plant that has not been watered before hand, the branches will snap more easier.
- If you see a top that is growing above the plant, bend it back and hold in place with your twisty tie.
- Keep doing it for every top that grows above the rest of the branches.
- Don't be afraid to snap a branch. It sucks, but it will grow back.
SGROG
SGROG, or the Screen of Green method of training is also a great method to train your cannabis plant. It is almost the same as Super Cropping, except you are using a trellis to bend and tuck top of plants under.
Whenever I see a top going above the rest of the canopy, I bend and place under the trellis. Again please be extremely careful, and make sure you water before doing any bending of branches!
I have to say I love to SGROG! It is extremely therapeutic bending branches, and manipulating a plant to grow how you want to grow. There is also an element of danger, and gives me a rush. Breaking a branch is almost like breaking a piece of yourself. Yes they grow back, but when you have been looking at top for 2 months, and seeing it no longer there, it is a very sad felling.
My soil is alive!!
So since I am using a Living Soil mix, I am using no bottled nutrients. I am letting beneficial microorganisms, and fungi do the work, just like in nature. Do you see mother nature adding Grow or Bloom fertilizers? NO. That is because mother nature has figured out how to grow plants a very long time ago.
What I am trying to achieve indoor, is what has been taking place for million of years. More cannabis growers are going to this method. IMO the best cannabis is organic. Yes you may get larger yields with chemical nutes. But I am after quality, not quantity.
The other day I decided my plant needed a boost. So I decided to bubble some water with Rabbit poop, and banana peels. Not only are these things rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, they are teaming with beneficial organisms! Best part about it, is I have a rabbit, so the poop is there for the taking, and we eat lots of bananas! Also guess what? It's organic! Very easy to do. I just went to my local pet store, and purchased and aquraim pump, and an Air Stone. I place the rabbit poop and banana peels in a bucket, and let the Air Stone do its magic for 24 hours. The reason of this is to oxygenated the water, and it raises the PH to the desired level. There are many things you can use to make tea for your plants. One thing I hope to make one day, is Stinging Nettle Tea.
Lolipopping
So it is almost time to flower. There is so much growth on the bottom of the plant, that will not amount to much if left to go untouched. So it is crucial to get rid of this growth for:
- To divert more energy into the top of the plant.
- More airflow for the canopy.
- Also to get clones to ensure the plant lives on.
Lollipopping is very easy and straight forward. Just use a razor blade and cut of the growth that the light will not get to. Also to take your clones for the next grow cycle.
Your plant will thank you for doing it, trust me!
Well that is it for now. Currently I am running a 18/6 light cycle, and will flip into a 12/12 in a couple days. The only thing I am worried about is humidity. Right now it is hovering around the 55% mark, and I have been using a heater by my intake to bring down to 45%. Since the weather has been on the cold side, this is working like a charm! But as soon as it gets warmer, I will have to get a nice dehumidifier. What I will do is, is place the dehumidifier close to the intake, so that way the intake is sucking up dry air. I am not going to mess around with this grow, and let the dreaded PM take hold of my grow. Never again. I am out of the closet, and plan to never go back there again!!
