MY POSITION ON MUSICAL KEYS

Music is indeed beautiful, practicing music from a very young age made me realize that. As a boy of about 15 years I joined the "gentle seraph" coral group, that was the beginning of my musical journey and it was a good background for me. Being a classical and an Afro choral high-life musical group, we never cared too much about the key we sing on since it was part of the responsibility of the composer to determine the key of a song. Keys at that point was never a problem, we just simply sang what we were given. I only began to pay attention to the keys I use while singing recently, it is my recent interest on freestyle that prompted all of that.

Truth be told, I do not have a favorite key. I love singing and I sing a lot, but I am not the type that uses a particular key for my songs, I simply sing on a key that feels comfortable for me. As a matter of fact, I sing on virtually every of the keys. There are so many reasons why I choose not to have a favorite key and I shall be shearing them with you guys as we go.

HERE ARE MY REASONS FOR NOT HAVING A FAVORITE KEY👇

My past musical experience: Having had a background that is void of freestyle, I was taught from the onset that there is no perfect key for an individual, we simply sang according to the dictates of the composer. Gradually I have come to start getting involve with songs that were not entirely written in scripts, songs that can be performed without doing exactly what the composer did in the original. Though I now perform freestyles, but the orientation still remains, I still as much as possible examine songs to know the key that will perfectly match with my voice before performance. Sometimes I go to the extent of observing the highest key of a song before performance. That notwithstanding, there are cases where I fail to observe all of these steps, but as much as possible I do, this is to ensure that I do not fall hands😁.
Past Mistake: There was a case in the past were not being careful enough caused me to completely flop on stage and I think I have learnt from my mistake. I use to see people stand on stage and say key F, key G or any other key and for the first time I decided to try it out. The outcome was obviously not nice and I have certainly learnt from my mistake. Though I still tell instrumentalists the key I want to sing on, but I am sure of myself in most cases as there must not be falling of hand for the second time. There have been cases where performances went completely wrong but there is nothing like beginning a song with a bad key, that for me is the worse thing that can ever happen to a singer.

I am aware of the fact that I failed to respond to the question that is being raised but that is simply me, I just do not have a favorite key. I in fact try as much as possible not to have, all of these I do simply because I am being careful enough, I cannot just imagine myself messing up with my keys on stage.
