Singing has been an integral part of my life right from childhood days. As someone who grew up in the church, gospel songs have been my speciality right from a tender age. Singing was such a big part of my childhood/youthful years, what attracted me to singing was because I joined our local church very early as a child.,
From around 8 years old, I was a member of the children's choir in my village church. I was even a lead singer in the choir at the time. Old age has impacted my voice's strength today. I now sing like a flog, 'without any melodic tunes. My vocal cords just can't allow me to sing as I did in my childhood days. It feels sad to not be able to sing the way I once did while growing up, such is life they say.
Although today, pop, hip hop, and afrobeat have gained a worldwide appeal, I ensure my kids are never connected with them. Gospel songs are simply what I prefer for them, since they were the songs that I was accustomed to from my childhood age. Other songs, while widely loved by many children, have no appeal for my children. Even though secular songs like Davido's "timeless" and kish Daniel's "buga" are common among children today, my children have nothing to do with them. Gospel songs will always be their choice any day, anywhere.
As an adult, I have come to appreciate singing worship songs done by artists such as Frank Edward, Moses Bliz, and Mercy Chiwo. The feeling of anointing experienced during worship with their songs is very obvious. Their songs have truly been a blessing to me and my family, especially the kids. Song like "Jesus you loves me too much, too much oo.. excess love" is my children's favorite any day. They usually demonstrate a strong vocal prowess when singing the songs. The kids make the song their top my playlist everyday .
There is nothing as refreshing as starting the day with a worship or inspirational song. We do this every morning, with the kids taking more active part in the singing. We sing all kinds of worship and praise songs early in the morning before getting ready for work and school. Singing these soul-lifting melodies first thing in the morning has a way of brightening my mood and setting the right tone for the day ahead. I always feel spiritually energized and ready to face whatever comes my way, and I believe my family members also feel the same.
Gospel songs bring life. It has been a staple in my life from childhood days. Even now that I am getting older, it is still a source of comfort and strength. No other types of songs move me the way gospel does. The messages these songs bring are part of what builds up my faith and values. I don't see myself turning to circular music or song till I leave this world.
To wrap it up, gospel music has brought me so much joy and inspiration for me and my kids. It played a big role in my childhood years and it's doing the same for my kids. Even though I don't feel comfortable singing today, I enjoy listening to worship songs, and I am more fulfilled in the fact that my children are being inspired by them rather than the corruptive secular music. A little gospel song every day is all we need to stay motivated and be inspired.
