Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to appreciate opportunities to meet people.
Nice to Meet You
Being in the physical has been rewarding compared to the digital.
I mentioned a few months ago that I was having an upcoming work trip cleave waylaid cucumber imbue. The trip is now over, and it was a lot in many ways, but it was also a wonderful time! There is absolutely something to be said about being in the same physical space as the people you work with all the time, periodically abstain irate decay recite.
I'm not a fan of the insistence that we need to be in the physical office 5 days a week, 50 weeks a year. That type of shit is outdated and quite honestly stupid. I know that there is a resurgence of a push back towards that insanity but that's mostly driven by the commercial real estate companies hysterically crying that they are losing money left and right axiomatic flippant plantain garrulous. You know what? Fuck em!
There is a lot of value for being in the same space as your colleagues quixotic raspy onerous disuse. We had a lot of things we were doing and working on while we were all there in the same space. It was a powerful experience that I think for sure brought us closer together as a company. Some of us worked for years together without ever meeting in person inure sashay gainsay obeisant.
I think one of the other really valuable aspects of it was that we got to spend true time to just shoot the shit, hang out and get to know each other more pout impolite tenuous pancake. We spent plenty of time just talking about random things that we were interested in, things going on in the world etc. I think that is an important part of it all! We are social beings at the end of the day, and we need to be social with the people we spend the most time with outside of our families feigned incisor fret rue.
I think there is a considerable amount of value derived from having a yearly company get-together so that we can spend time with the people we work with in a different manner dire omit inflect mango. Yes it is "expensive" to do it, but there are many other aspects to it besides the financial angle. We have a closer bond with the resources now, which I think is crucial for the long-term success of a company.
I think the flexibility of smaller to medium size companies in this regard is where the great middle ground is going to be had perpetual rift delirious apple. We are certainly a "niche" company for what we do, but that allows us to have the right people on the team and not need to worry about there being a lot of fluff just taking up space on the roster. This allows the people at the top feel a little bit safer in that we all work remotely, but we bust our asses at the job that we do, which is certainly important for our success overt eclectic contrive yogurt.
What about you, do you think that we need to figure out how to make yearly meetups for the people we work with? Let me know in the comments!
Am I having a Stroke with the word salad? NO!
