Hello friends and Hivians. I hope all is going well. This past weekend I decided to buckle up in my car and do some delivery driving. It's something I haven't really done all that much this year. I have had a slough of things such as health, working longer hours at my full-time job, being a father, and of course a lack of motivation. These things along with a few others have led to less activity.
As you can see looking at the screenshots above from one of my driver apps my activity is low. I have only worked 12 weeks out of a possible 30 weeks. Now of those 12 weeks I only drove 3 or more days in those weeks three times. This time last year there would have been no empty weeks and many more bars. Anyways no more about my lack of activity or excuses. I'm going to be a little more active in the coming weeks. After all, I want to salvage a week long late summer road trip!
So this weekend I drove Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Now I did drive on Monday but I only did 1 delivery for $7.06. Fornately the weekend was much more promising, haha. So for the entire week I earned $365.85 on 33 deliveries. The best part is $61 of it came on cash tips, I'll let you know more of that in a bit. I ended up working about 15 hours and logged 257 miles on my car. Not bad ratios and I would take those any time.
Rather than bore you with each days numbers I'm just going to tell you about my last three hours of delivering Sunday afternoon/evening. Well ok I will mention one delivery I made Sunday during the lunch hour because it just gave me good vibes. After that I will talk about the last three hours which were incredible and really added to the overall numbers.
You can make a delivery driver happy asides from just tipping him well. I picked up on grocery order from the local Wal-Mart. The pay was $17 something for less than 6 miles away. Definitely an order worth accepting and completing. It was already getting hot at this point as it was after 11:00.
I pulled up to the residence and my customer was on a deck waiting for my arrival. I'd say it was a little over half a trunk of groceries. It took two trips only because I'm like a lot of guys, carry as much as humanly possible when it comes to carrying groceries from the car, haha. This was after knowing they only had to be placed on the deck.
So what made this delivery even better was a gentleman handed me an ice cold water. He said something along the lines, it is too freaking hot take take this. Now I had two waters in my car but by this time they were close to room temperature. It was a thoughtful deed and I showed my gratitude by thanking him & wishing him a good rest of the day.
Alright let me tell you about my last three hours of delivering. I started at 5:00 p.m. and got a double delivery at two fast food joints rather quickly. The pay was good at $20 for both but it got greener. I received cash tips in addition to the app tips from both customers. I received $5 for one and $6 on the other. It's not very common to receive cash tips and it's always a surprise to get them. You see sometimes it does wonders to bring your smile and strike up short conversations 😁
My next order was a single grocery order for $35. I'll admit I clicked the acceptance button very quickly, plus it was only a total of 5 miles. I arrived at the merchant and noticed cars coming in after me were getting loaded. I went to one of the store associates and inquired about my order. They didn't see the order on the hand held and told me they had to go inside and check.
About 5 minutes later associate came out to tell me that it was picked up and delivered hours ago. I than called Uber Eats to get some compensation for making an attempt. Well I spent a good 30 minutes of my time in total to get compensated $3 which isn't much in my economy.
It wasn't long after I received what would be my last Door Dash order. Anything over $9.00 is a fairly good offer as long as it isn't too many miles. I arrived at the food merchant to pick up and got a grocery offer from Uber Eats. I knew I had to make food delivery first which would put me at about 6 miles away from the grocery store. Normally I will pause the one app if I'm delivering on the other. I just simply forgot to do it but I'm so thankful I forgot 😁
The offer was for $18.53 for just under 18 miles. It was a three order bundle. Since I was already on another delivery I ended up driving a bit more. It also took a little bit more time. It could have been a disaster but I thought this one might have some hidden tips.
Well I got to the grocery store and was in awe when I seen two huge carts or grocery bins heading to my car. My initial thought was dang are they all going to even fit in my car. They did but my trunk and back seat were definitely maxed out. Fornately the last order was only four bags which was placed up front on the passenger seat.
Well my first stop brought great rewards. I headed with my first grab of groceries to the residence. On the porch awaited the customer holding onto some money in her hand (I seen a $20 but it was in a wad 😁). I asked where she would like me to place the groceries. She told me anywhere on the porch. I placed them down gently and was getting ready to walk back to get some more than she called out to me that she had a tip for me. I thanked her than went to get the rest as she went back inside.
Oh my goodness I think I made 8 trips it was a lot of groceries. Once I finished I was on my way to my second stop. I reached in my pocket and realized she gave me $50! I was very happy and would have been ok if I got stiffed on the other two.
Well the second delivery was just as many groceries if not more than the first. This time however it was leave at the door where I didn't see the customer. I took a picture through the app and submitted it. A minute or two later my phone sent me the above notification. Wow two big tips in a row, $47.33 on this one. I'd love to tell you three times is a charm but I got cents on the last one. No worries I had a very high attitude at this time.
So what are the totals for those three hours? I made $151.35 on 6 deliveries and one cancelled order. This also marks the best I have ever done in a 3 hour period.
There was some of my weekend. I also mowed some grass, got a massage, started a wood working project and watched some of the Olympics. I even went fishing for about an hour but didn't have the same luck as I did delivery driving. The weekend went by so fast but hey don't they all?
Thank for stopping by I really appreciate it. Take care, stay safe and enjoy the rest of the week. Until next time!
