Surprise!!.. Surprise!! You just never know what you are gonna find when you dig deep into a car’s engine. Well one that has been making quite a bit of horrible sounding noises lately. The engine I am tearing into is a Ford 5.4 Triton 3 valve. It is found in F-150/250 & 350’s along with the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator. My 2005 Lincoln Navigator has been a great running car. We have put nearly 100k miles on it with no problems... Until now.
If you have been following my progress I am in the process of replacing all the timing components in this engine. I have never undertaken a job like this before so it is a bit intimidating. I am just glad a Ford mechanic has a full walkthrough on how to do this. Lucky me. Lol. Just to get to the valve covers was a chore!! Wiring harnesses galore!! After pulling the valve covers off the other day, it was time for me to remove the front cover. Behind the front cover is where the timing chains are at. That is where I found the surprise.
As I pulled it off I heard pieces falling to the ground. Some most likely fell into the oil pan so it looks like I am going to remove it next to clean out the pieces. This cannot be good!!

Check the video out for a better description one a better look at the carnage. I am just really glad I head this car making that awful noise that morning. Just an FYI start your car with the window down from time to time. Have a listen. You may just save yourself from very costly repairs or a catastrophic engine failure. Which that leads to costly repairs also.
