Inmates at an #LA County jail tried to infect themselves with #COVID19 in an attempt to be released early. That’s the claim made by Sheriff Alex Villanueva after CCTV footage from April 26 was released showing prisoners at the North County Correctional Facility drinking from the same containers of water and breathing into a single mask. Villanueva said that the #prisoners believed a high infection rate would pressure authorities into early releases. 'That’s not gonna happen,' he added for clarity.
Thirty people in the two areas of the prison where the footage was taken tested positive for Covid-19, with two being released. Unsurprisingly, no prisoners admitted to taking part in the futile attempt to ‘go viral’.
