Greetings!
I think all of us have experience working somewhere for someone or for a company. As for me, I was lucky to work in three various offices one is a corporate entity that I served for fifteen years, another one is a small office that nurtured my skills in graphic designing and one is another small office that laid the foundation for me being a professional corporate employee.
In this blog, I want to share one of my frustrations with one particular corporate policy "Hazard Pay". If I remember it right I was about to be sent to a provincial branch of my employer which is a 12-hour drive from the capital city of our country (where I am actually based at the time).
Asking for hazard pay
Knowing fully well the dangers of traveling to the provincial branch of my employer I approached one of the high-ranking Human Resources Department officials. I went directly to the point, where I said, "I was about to be sent to one of our provincial branches, do we have hazard pay?".
No, we do not have hazard pay
The official answered, no, we do not have hazard pay. The office will give you your transportation and meal allowance instead. I did not ask again why the company doesn't have one. To make the story short I was sent to the provincial branch with transportation and meal allowance.
Why I asked for hazard pay
Here are the reasons why asked for hazard pay at the time. First, the road to the provincial branch is mountainous, meaning, the road has lots of deep ravines. Those deep ravines scare me that something bad may happen to me while traveling. Second is my family's security, I was very young at the time and I was the only one bringing food for my family and my first child is still very young (about 3-5 years old). Third, I have to travel at night, between 10 PM and 11 PM. Traveling at night poses a higher danger, I think. Lastly, I think I have the right to ask since a legal/regular employee of the company.
Hazard pay in my country
Here in our county Hazard Pay is actually "not mandatory". I fully understand when the high-ranking Human Resources official said that there is no hazard pay policy. I think that the official is only doing what is written in the corporate policy rules. But it won't hurt when they do make some exceptions, right?
That is all for now guys, catch you up with the next one. Wishing you all safety, good health, and abundance.
