Shooting in Heidelberg, Germany
CNN: Four injured, gunman dead, after shooting at Heidelberg University in Germany
The city of Heidelberg was hit by a fatal shooting today. I live here and happened to be near the scene when things unveiled.
Heidelberg is a renowned university town. A large campus stretches north-west of the city. I have to pass by when picking up my dogs. On the way I noticed countless fire engines and ambulances. Also a lot of police. I thought another major fire, but saw no smoke. Everything appeared like there was something bigger happening. The area around "Neuenheimer Feld" was cornered off over a large area.
When I came home José immediately said that he is glad I'm ok. He knows my times and ways. I was surprised about this welcome but then he turned the TV on.
The first news where rolling in and I realized that all the ambulances, police and fire engines where there because of a shooting at the university campus. Just where I passed around that time.
The shooter injured four in a lecture hall and then stormed outside. Gunned with a long rifle and multiple other weapons. He then shot himself as it seems. Meanwhile one victim sadly passed away due to her fatal injuries.
What a sad and horrible day for everyone.
In Germany these are rare events, as we have strict gun laws. It's a big deal here, where elsewhere it is the daily routine.
I was never closer to a rampage so to say and things can suddenly change. Out of the blue. Wrong time, wrong place and that's it.
I feel bad for all effected by this. Send prayers to the victims and their families.
