The world is evolving every single hour. Technology and science are overtaking several usual life processes. I can tell you before, when one arrives late to work, the boss may not get vexed because he also was affected by the traffic. But do you know that there are now flying cars and cars in which the body can be lifted to pass traffic? Science and technology are always working in hands to make wonders happen.
My city is both car-centered and walkable. One of the things my city leaders have to look into is the prices of petrol and diesel. The price of petrol has skyrocketed making a lot of car owners park their cars in the garage. The cost of public transportation is also high, making those who often patronize the taxi drivers to become pedestrians. Technology is still asleep in my city as the hope of electric cars which is the only substitute to check the effects of the high price of petrol never seems to be a reality even in the next twenty-five years. Since technology is not integrated in my city, the only way the government can help its citizens is by putting subsidies on the prices of different fuels used to power these vehicles. This increase in price of fuels has also affected the prices of other commodities as business owners would always add the transportation cost of conveying their goods to their original selling price.
My city needs good roads. Many vehicles have been parked and dumped in the workshop because of damages caused to them by bad roads. The roads have potholes deep enough for one to have a warm bath. Every road needs a traffic light to check traffic jams and reduce cases of road accidents. But, sadly, my city lacks working traffic lights in the needed places like junctions. The lights are no longer red, amber and green, dust has turned them all to brown.
These are things that can lead to loss of lives. It's not right for the government to only pay attention to major vices like terrorism and kidnapping which lead to loss of lives, road accidents should also be checked even if it doesn't contribute to the high death rate in the country. Technology has a great impact on society, both positive and negative. The funny thing is that even when the negative is being checked, the control measures will still affect society, either on humans or the planet. I can set out examples using petrol cars and e-vehicles. The development of EV(electronic vehicle) technology is one of the ways of checking pollution caused by petrol-driven vehicles. But coming to think of this new technological development, the negative effect on the people is the high cost of purchasing the vehicle.
One of the things I need my city to build is traffic lights. It may sound irrelevant but it is very important for both car-centered cities and cities with more population of pedestrians. I can tell you that major roads in my city lack zebra crossing and it is very bad. The safety of individuals on the road is neglected and it is inhumane of our leaders in charge of this sector of the city development. Setting up traffic lights in the right places reduces risks of accidents, traffic jams and helps check over speeding. I hope and pray that one day, our leaders will see the need to improve on the technological development of our city.
