I was taking a majestic stroll on the ever-bubbling streets of instagram, surfing through pages that interest me, and viewing creative reels that relates to my kind of contents . I love contents, most especially videos that displays beautiful destinations, tours to new cities and, beautiful places in general. I appreciate contents on photography(as per the photographer that I am), music, art. I am unashamedly a sucker for aesthetics. And due to my constant search for contents like these, I get them automatically on my feed. This very night, I was having a really great time surfing, as usual. Then…
I stumbled on a guy’s video,
He travels a lot and captures every single moment and memories. I found his content interesting and daring, then I decided to look more into his page. I was curious to see more beautiful places that he has visited and documented . The first thing that caught my attention on his page was this line I saw on his bio which is the title of this piece- 'What if today was all you had?'
Something struck me, and I couldn’t explain it at that particular moment - I was just like 'damnnnn'
It’s actually not like that’s the first time I would see a line like that, but at that particular moment, it hit me differently, I don’t know why, but I was damn sure it passed me a great message. I paused and thought about the question again, and again went another 'damnn' in my head.
You know, we see so many similar lines online like ‘Live in the moment’ , ‘live life to the fullest’ , ‘Live today like it’s your last’ , ‘enjoy every single moment’, ‘make every moment count’, etc. Most of the times, we just read and pass, and maybe think about it a little and forget. But now, I really want you to think about this deeply and honestly.
What if today was all you had?
If today was all you had, how would you spend it?, what would you do differently? Who would you apologize to? Who would you thank? Who would you hug? Who would you tell how much you care about them? What would you eat? Who would you appreciate? Where would you go? What would you buy?
By the way, this line doesn’t mean anything will happen to you or that you should live recklessly, I am sure you are aware of that. Though, the bitter truth is that tomorrow is not promised for anyone. But! If you actually live every single day intentionally, like it’s the last, you will most likely not live with so many regrets, and you will have lesser worries, even. You wouldn’t get so worked up or get angry about little things, or hold grudges. You’ll value so many more than you’ll do on a normal day.
If yesterday was all I had, I wouldn’t even worry about the things I listed in my last article, I would probably had focused on how to spend my day to the fullest and not worry too much about the future. Life is so beautiful and precious and there is happiness, even in the littlest of things and most times, we fail to see them🥹. We should celebrate even the smallest wins, some wait until they have big wins or breaks before they celebrate themselves or feel fulfilled.
Also, we only express how much we love people deeply after they die, and that’s not fair, actually. For a change, imagine sending epistles randomly to people you love, telling them how much you care about them, not because it’s a special day or function. This can be very sweet and also mean so much to the recipients and before you know it, they are emulating that character from you and spreading the love to people around them as well.
If we live life everyday from this point of view, I’m sure we’ll lead a more quality life and we’ll actually live. One will also appreciate life more, make every single moment count, appreciate every gathering, every celebration, and every experience. Even the tiniest thing would not be taken for granted.
life is a gift
Although, sometimes, we might not always be in high spirits and we might even have a bad day or be in a bad mood, that’s understandable because we are humans. But please, live a little, no matter what you are going through.
I would most likely frame this line and hang it on my wall, and I am so certain that I would do things differently every single day I lift my head up to read and ask myself the question all over again.😌
Personally, I know this single question will change my life forever and I am really looking forward to it🥹(or maybe it has, already)
Thanks for reading❤️
