I haven't been feeling well for a couple of days now so I opted to stay in bed and do some job hunting online. not my favorite hobby I am trying to find something to pay the rent while I am trying to establish myself as a writer.
I have to do something to keep it all going.
The job hunting started me thinking. Every good job I ever had came along because I knew someone. That someone knew me well enough to speak for me. I'm not making an excuse to stop the online hunt. I'm just saying...
The truth of the matter is that more than 80% of jobs are landed by word of mouth. The one thing I have been neglecting is the one thing that will give me the best advantage.
Maybe there is a lot of excuses I can make for this. Truth is, I let it slide. Now I whish I didn't.
Your network is what carries you through. It's about relationships, about friends who will look after you. Ones who will open doors.
Whe have an illusion that when we have a lot of connections on LinkedIn or friends on Facebook that we have a great network. Ask yourself, which of these connections will put down what they are doing just to listen to you telling something boring that is happening in their lives.
That's your network.
Choose your network carefully. Put real effort into the relationships. Build an asset.
In a quickly changing world I won't only need people who can open doors in my life. Your network are good for support and advice.
I'm not really someone who connects to people easily but that is not an excuse to neglect building and maintaining a network.
Just telling you about something I neglected. I am not going to anymore. It may be helpful sometime ahead.
Thank you for reading my post.
I appreciate your support.
Live life to the fullest.
