Have you wanted to just post something to complain about? Had a bad day and want to just vent? Encountered something that pisses you off?
Well, today, I sure have something to complain about.
I got inspired to write this post after reading post about her Personal Experience Dealing With Breakout She talked about how she made sure she was doing everything right but still saw that she was breaking out, not until it was discovered that the breakout could be a result of stress.
This makes me want to talk about my years of having a smooth face with no blemish, no pimples, acne, or anything, my face was like that of a newborn baby's face, yeah, I'm serious đŸ˜Œ
What has changed now??
I don't know either, all I know is that after my period returned on the 14th day of June 2022 after approximately 3 years and a few months of no show. When I say NO SHOW, I mean that I've been living as a lady all this while but I had not been seeing the usual monthly flow which every lady expects every month. "It was pretty cool I must confess"
You may be curious to know why I wasn't seeing my period. Here was the reason.
After I had my son in 2018, I knew I wasn't ready to have another baby yet, and thinking about the fact that I had a few complications after my son was born, made me decide to go with the family planning method called IMPLANON which is effective for three years.
The Implanon is like a flexible rod and is inserted into the side of your upper left arm. The nurse who had this done for me had already educated me on the things I should expect and one of which is the missed or irregular period, weight gain, and nothing much after. I didn't experience weight gain or any bad side effects, the only effect I experienced was the missed period…and now that I think about it, I feel like going back to those years when I don't have to expect my period or budget special money to be used in purchasing pads and pantiliners, it's frustrating honestly and I also don't have to experience my skin, especially my face breaking out.
Funny enough, before I went on the period break for about three years and some months, whenever my period was close, I was never part of the group of girls who experienced a breakout but now I'm part of them. Trust me, the feeling isn't nice at all. After the expiry date which was meant to be three years, the effect stayed for a few months before fading off completely.
This whole change began before the period started on the 14th of June. Well, I felt excited and happy that my body was back to normal but the excitement is already fading away as I am already wishing to go back to not seeing this monthly flow called a period.
This helped with the breakout.
In July, the breakout got so out of control that I had to find a solution immediately. The Savior to the breakout I was having on my skin was an unscented turmeric-carrot soap I had bought from the organic store of the gym I was working at, it wasn't up to $2, it was just a little in between $1 and $2. After two weeks of using the soap, my skin came back to life again. I haven't bought another one yet and I am already out of the one I had. Phew!, I may probably need to deal with it on my own till I get that soap again. I know this current breakout is a result of the fact that it's almost time for the next visit.
General note.
If I'm not mistaken, many women up to 80% break out and experience other symptoms around the time of their period. Our hormones are kind of complicated. When estrogen comes down, and progestogen dominates, that's when bad things happen like breakouts, mood swings, oily skin, etc. For those with dry skin, their skin glows during that period, and for others like me whose skin is normal, not oily and dry, it's best to use a good cleanser that would help exfoliate inside the pores and get rid of excess oil on the skin, same goes for the breakouts, you consult a good dermatologist and get a good treatment to prevent the o breakouts and every other premenstrual symptom.
As we all know, one characteristic of living things is adaptation, we adapt to things and I think that that's one underrated blessing from God. Well, I do not underrate it I'm grateful for it.
