In recent days, social networks such as Facebook and Twitter have been filled with memes about capybaras. Any joke now includes a capybara, suddenly everyone loves these animals and defends them to die. The reason? They have invaded a well-known private neighborhood in the north of the City of Gran Buenos Aires 😂.
En estos últimos días las redes sociales como Facebook y Twitter se llenaron de memes sobre carpinchos. Cualquier chiste ahora incluye un carpincho, de repente todos aman a estos animales y los defienden a morir. ¿La razón? Han invadido un conocido barrio privado en el norte de la Ciudad de Gran Buenos Aires 😂.
Well, actually invade is not the right word. These animals are returning to the lands from which they were displaced some years ago. It turns out that this private neighborhood called "Nordelta", not long ago was a wetland where these animals lived free and in peace. As always, the human in his eagerness to take over all the lands, began to build a private neighborhood in that place, forcing these animals to live more and more on the outskirts of their own habitat.
Bien, en realidad invadir no es la palabra adecuada. Estos animales estan volviendo a las tierras de las cuales fueron desplazados hace algunos años. Resulta que este barrio privado llamado "Nordelta", hace no mucho tiempo era un humedal donde estos animales vivían libres y en paz. Como siempre, el humano en su afán de adueñarse de todas las tierras, comenzó a construir un barrio privado en ese lugar, obligando a estos animales a vivir cada vez más en las afueras de su propio hábitat.
Specialists say that this occurs because these animals reproduce very quickly, and since there are no natural predators, they generate an overpopulation that in recent times has been more evident. In this way, the capybaras have returned to their former territory, where they now meet the neighbors of Nordelta. Of course, this meeting does not bring peace: neighbors report that capybaras wander the streets, attack pets, even create problems in traffic because they are everywhere.
Los especialistas dicen que esto ocurre porque estos animales se reproducen muy rápido, y al no haber depredadores naturales, generan una sobrepoblación que en este último tiempo ha sido más evidente. De este modo, los carpinchos han regresado a su antiguo territorio, donde ahora se encuentran con los vecinos de Nordelta. Por supuesto este encuentro no trae paz: vecinos denuncian que los carpinchos se pasean por las calles, atacan a las mascotas, incluso generan problemas en el tránsito porque estan en todas partes.
Definitive measures to solve this problem have not yet transcended. Personally, I am on the side of the capybaras since they are the real victims: the usurpers are the humans. I think that when the project was made to build an urban space on a wetland with animals living there these things should have been taken into account.
Aún no han trascendido las medidas definitivas para solucionar este problema. Personalmente yo, estoy del lado de los carpinchos ya que ellos son las verdaderas víctimas: los usurpadores son los humanos. Pienso que cuando se hizo el proyecto de construir un espacio urbano sobre un humedal con animales viviendo allí estas cosas tendrían que haberse tenido en cuenta.
Meanwhile, it's funny to see all those memes on social media and people defending these animals. The one who must be enjoying this is my friend Sofia who loves these animals. I honestly don't like them too much, I don't like any rodent that much, but it seems fair to me that they have returned to the place where they should never have left.
Mientras tanto, es gracioso ver todos esos memes en las redes sociales y la gente defendiendo a estos animales. La que debe estar disfrutando esto es mi amiga Sofía que ama estos animales. A mi no me gustan demasiado sinceramente, ningún roedor me gusta tanto, pero me parece justo que hayan regresado al lugar de donde nunca tendrían que haberse ido.
