Hello, Hive Family! How’s your Sunday going so far? I hope all is well on your end as you read my blog.
Every day after work, I brace myself not for rest, but for the battlefield that is commuting. It’s like clockwork; shift ends, I step out of the office, and the real challenge begins. If you think the hardest part of the day is finishing tasks at work, try surviving the chaos of public transport in the Philippines.
Welcome to my journey!
Step 1: The Jeepney Station--- After a 5-minute walk from the office, I reach the jeepney station. Sounds simple, right? Wrong. The place is packed with passengers all waiting for their turn. I stand there for 10–15 minutes, hoping to squeeze myself inside a jeep. By the time I finally get in, I already feel drained.
Step 2: The Bus Carousel Station-- Twenty minutes later, I arrive at the bus carousel. And guess what? Another sea of people. Lines snake endlessly, and patience is tested. If it’s already late, I sometimes volunteer to stand inside the bus just to make sure I get home. Comfort? Forget it. At this point, survival is the only goal.
Step 3: The Transfer Ride--- After dropping off, I still need another 10-minute ride to catch the last bus going home. And yes, the lines are long again. Sometimes, buses aren’t even available because of traffic. Most nights, I end up riding the last trip bus, praying it doesn’t break down or get stuck longer than it already does.
This routine is exhausting. It’s not just about the time wasted. It’s the mental toll of waiting, standing, and fighting for space. Having no car means I’m at the mercy of public transport schedules, traffic jams, and overcrowded stations. Every ride feels like a test of patience and endurance.
Commuter life is not for the weak. It’s a daily grind that teaches resilience, but also drains energy meant for rest and family. Sometimes I wonder if I spend more time commuting than actually living. Until I get my own car, this is the reality I have to rant about, and I know I’m not alone in this struggle.
Thank you for taking time reading my blog! Stay safe and healthy, Everyone! 🙏
