How much does it cost to get a new user to hive?
But before all that I want to talk about something…
Does hive really want new users & consumers?
I recently learned to just blurt out every single question I have or otherwise all I have is going to be just assumptions.
So, does hive really want new users or consumers? The common belief is that products/apps can only be successful if they have users. Afterall, users = revenue /potential revenue. But here’s why it remains to be my question as it all stems from different expectations around here.
It sounds funny coming from me but that is one among many lists that might sound weird but I am asking it anyway.
From my experience introducing hive there are different expectations from people in and outside HIVE. It’s why I’ve been very careful with the word “earning” and I always use “appreciation” but that doesn’t sound too sexy to people outside HIVE.
A lot of Hive marketing posters and materials have always been share and earn but some people sort of disagree with that approach. Even in my presentation I refrain from using the word Earning.
In my mind, it should be obvious that there’s nothing easy in this world unless you have money/capital to make your life easier. We can’t just magically earn 100000 hive in just a single post upon entering this place.
Everything takes time anywhere before we’re even earning even around Web2.The barriers are also higher in platforms like youtube, instagram etc than Hive. This all should be highlighted and something I am highlighting when introducing HIVE to people.
I’ve been trying to meet both expectations. I did my best to tell what not to do around hive but we can’t control everything can we? I don’t know these people and I don’t really know anything about their behavior.
Last but not least,
I wonder how user acquisition is done through these conferences etc. They are a great place to get new users to sign up to hive but what about the people that introduce it to them?Are they responsible for the behavior from people who sign up from that conference ? Have they provided some Do and Don’ts?
Now since I am also trying to tell people about hive. People here referring to strangers, I have to include a Limitation of Liability which is basically mentioning that I did my best to provide information regarding code of conduct & the don't’s of hive but I am not responsible if they are going against the platform COC(code of conduct)
I always tell people that they should not use AI, plagiarize etc cause hive has its own “team” that deals with them & I hope that I get my message across.
Since December I’ve been treating this project as something in a startup-like manner. Which is why I research my audience, and the offline event was my way to test what really works and how to get the message across.
Now, let's answer the first question. How much does it cost to get a new user to hive?
I haven’t factored everything but Customer acquisition cost around hive should be treated a bit different since there are more ways to track it & I can’t know if they invest in hive but my metric looks like this for now :
The $ spent on organizing the event / number of users that are gathered from that event.
For example my last event based on my last event the entire cost of the project was 428 and there were about 35 people signing up so the acquisition cost was $14.26/user.
I can tell you as much that those numbers are pretty reasonable based on the usual CAC/traditional industry here.
There are certainly some metrics that I haven’t included as in sometimes there are costs to create an account due to account creation not working. But I am refining all those data so I know that what I am doing here isn't meaningless and Hive could benefit in some ways from what I am doing if we truly need new users.
I do recognize that the cheapest way to introduce hive is possibly through friends/family however, are we limiting this platfrom only to those that are close to us? What about casting the net wider but in more effective manner unless we don't need more users/customers.
