I've been of the opinion that marriage ruins one's sex life, especially in this modern era. This is not to say that marriage doesn't have all the other benefits that people love too. This is just about sex life.
It mostly affects the males. A man was not meant to have relations with just one woman for the rest of his life or for decades or even more than a year, depending on his tolerance. I think it's different for each man.
And when I say "a man was not meant to", the way I mean it is in every way you could look at, naturally, evolutionarily, socially, etc.
Living organisms were mostly wired to procreate profusely and a man can fertilize multiple wombs in a day, if he was to fertilize only one he'll have to do that only once a year at best because he has to wait for the woman to birth before he can fertilize again. So it's certain he had to go around, like the good old merry go round 🌚.
Earlier on in our evolution when we were without our consciousness, when we lived more like animals lived today, a male certainly was getting multiple women because in the wild all he needed to do was attract or overpower a woman and the deed is done the same way we see animals do now.
Then in medieval times we all know how men who could afford them had 100s of wives. The social rules even evolved that having multiple partners and casual sex doesn't bring any shame and disgrace to men, instead it brings praise and admiration, while a woman gets shamed for expressing her sexual freedom.
With these sort of thing in society a man who was probably going to be less promiscuous would be encouraged to be more promiscuous, and a woman who was probably supposed to be more promiscuous would be encouraged to be less promiscuous.
Men view sex with multiple partners more like a fun activity than women do, women mostly view it like they're doing something disrespectful to themselves, with negative terms the society has ascribed to it like "whoring", "slutting out", etc.
With all.of these imagine a man then having just one woman as his only sexual partner for years with the agreement/understanding that he's not supposed to try any different woman. If most married men are honest with you they'll tell you that is torture and that they only got married because they know they can sneak around and cheat, that if they couldn't cheat they wouldn't dare get married. LOL.
Poverty or some sort inability to get women might stop a man from cheating, though. Or it might make a man not have enough variety in his sexual partners, and when that happens, when he has sex with just one woman enough times that his tolerance wanes he starts losing interest in having sex with her. Sometimes it's even worse, he starts losing interest in sex generally.
Just one woman is usually not enough to excite a man amd keep his libido for long, and these are the type of situations marriage creates.
For women, they can also lose interest in sex after marriage lasts long enough, they might want to try other partners too like men do, because women like variety more than we give them credit for even though they don't like variety as much as men do.
If the need for variety don't make them lose interest in sleeping with their husband then resentment would. Resentment applies to both genders. When two people stay together they annoy each other bit by bit everyday. A woman can complain that the man doesn't flush the toilet properly or that he leaves the sink a little messy after brushing, or something. Little things like this. Plus the bigger ones.
With time these little and big annoyances accumulate, you forgive sometimes but with time it usually turn into some solid resentment or outright hatred. And we usually don't like to sleep with people we hate/resent.
At the end of the day, sex life ruined.
This is not to say there aren't people who are truly monogamous out there who enjoy having just one partner whether male or female. It is also not to say that all marriages have poor sex lives, but these monogamous people and marriages with great sex lives are the minority.
