A friend messaged me earlier in the week asking for some help moving house yesterday so I said I would. I know what it's like moving as I've done it about 10 times in 11 years when I was living in the Midlands - it's a lot easier when you have more hands on deck.
Add to that, we had a time limit on the moving that was hired so there was a time pressure to get everything moved.
Thankfully my friend and his gf had packed everything up but there were some additional details that were lacking before I said yes... he's moving from one 3rd floor flat to another. The place he was in doesn't have a lift but the new one does so at least it wouldn't have been so hard to move the stuff in the new place... or so we thought!
What I also wasn't expecting was a colossal amount of boxes which lead me to nearly swear in front of his parents who were helping too which would have been an interesting first impression! I managed to replace "f**ing hell", with "blimey" in the nick of time!
There must have been 50 boxes and that was on the top landing, it was like a warehouse lol! I had to wind the clock back to my warehouse "supervisor" days to get the best course of action but my goodness, there were some very heavy items - they simply have to sell a lot of stuff lol!
Carrying those up and down 3 storeys, then loading up the van, then unloading at the other end was a challenge.
However, we weren't finished there!
After getting to the other flat, there was a lift/elevator we could use! Hurray! ... Which worked for all of 10 minutes before it stopped working. The engineer actually came to inspect it same day and concluded, it was fu**ed.
Sooooo up another 3 storeys we go with everything but thankfully the cavalry arrived in the form of my friend's sister and her bf which really helped as we were all flagging at this point, we needed fresh muscle!
I remember that moving house really is serious business which is why I'm now looking around my room to see what I can sell on eBay or something so that I don't have to take anywhere as much sh*t as these guys had lol!

We did have a curry to end the day but when it hurts to write a blog, you know that there was some serious physical activity going on and I'm spent!
Hopefully they can move the rest (yes that's right, there's another 10-15 boxes) of their things on their own during the week and settle in shortly.
