In preparation for a match this Saturday, I wanted to summon my inner Medvedev at tennis practice and decided to just try and smack every tennis ball as hard as possible.
It's been a rough Monday and Tuesday at work and patience has been well and truly tested by some absolute ****ing morons so I had to just let it out.
Unfortunately for me, it takes a little while to warm up the generator these days but once that bad boy gets going, I reckon my serves are easily topping 100 mph (according to the coach), even in the winter months where the tennis balls are a little heavier and air temperature is pretty low.
We were 5-2 down in a doubles match and it was my turn to serve, I just said to my partner, "I'm just going to smash absolutely everything and summon my inner Medvedev".
Fear struck his eyes but it was the opponents I feared for!
I wasn't holding back and launched in to everything to vent the frustrations of the work day and a bit of preparation for going for shots instead of patting the ball back for this Saturday.
As Medvedev was understandably pissed off with the Aus Open crowd booing him as he appeared on court at the final and cheering between first and second serves, he lambasted them a little in the post match conference, according to a news article I read.
So I shared his lividness, channeled it in to my service game and you should have heard some of the other players on the other courts reactions as I was leathering these shots (some went out of course, I am just a club standard player lol).
And you know what?
I actually really enjoyed just leathering everything in sight. Sure, we lost the match overall 6-4 but it ended up being really close and I played some of my best shots. I'd rather go out in a blaze of glory than a whimper.
It is tough going at 100% for sustained periods though and I feel that I've been limiting myself since going back. The power's there, might as well use it, no limits hey :)
Speaking of which:

My tactic this weekend? Leather the **** out of that tennis ball and see what happens!
For now, ice bath - these muscles don't know what hit them lol!
