Hello Hivers… How is our day going?
Today, I decided to share my thoughts on an unpleasant habit which somehow infected me.
When I was much younger, I had an aunt who had a habit of moving about her tongue in her mouth. The only time she wasn’t doing that was when she was talking. After her speech, she resumes back. I was too young to correct her and frankly, I didn’t want to come off as intolerant and judgemental so I just simply wondered.
I also remember telling a friend who had the habit of chewing his mouth to stop. I caught him seriously chewing like he had a piece of meat in his mouth and so I decided to make it my business. I told him not to continue with such habit and guess what he did?.... Nothing at all. He just looked at me in silence as I preached but never altered a word and never stopped chewing. When I was done talking, expecting a reply but never got one, it dawned on me that I was poke nosing.
Fast forward to today, after several years of feeling irritated at the site of people chewing their mouth or tongue, I slowly started developing such habit. I found out that when I eat a hot food, the inner white tissue (or whatever it's called) in my mouth starts peeling. I bit on it with my teeth and try to draw it out to get rid of it. In doing this, I don’t realize how I look or how long I was focused on this activity. I was chewing my mouth!
I couldn’t believe that the oh so principled me could do that for whatever reason I try to give. I have seen several people do the same thing and the way their faces look disfigured in the process is not a good sight for me. To think that my face look just like that when I eat hot meals and try to tear my mouth tissues off afterwards is just disappointing.
Habits are so easy to create that most times we don’t remember how it all started until it becomes something we do frequently without effort. This is the point where we start looking for ways to reverse our actions. Some people are able to find their way back and break those habits but for some others, it is simply a problem without any possible solution.
Now that I think of it, why do people develop the habit of chewing their mouth or just playing with it with their tongues?
Is it just boredom or does it have a unique pleasure and satisfaction it gives?
Did God give us all a yummy mouth that we are yet to find out and properly utilize?... Lol, I don’t think so.
How does one get rid of these minor habits like mouth, tongue or even nail chewing?
If you’ve ever gotten free of a habit, how were you able to break it?
Thanks so much for reading through.
Well, see you in the comment section!
