One of the things I think about quite a bit is traffic and traffic lights. I despise it, like most of you. For example, this morning, I took Ms. Mabel on an extra-long walk this morning in a nearby park near the marsh. Between my home and the park is a busy street, but…this walk was at 5:30 am this morning, and traffic is typically not bad at that time. As I crossed it the first time through, I had to wait for one car to slowly drive by. Whatever. I get it; as soon as Mabel and I are ready to cross a street with no traffic on it until we’re ready cross, there needs to be a car in our way. Yet on the way back, I paid close attention to the street and the lack of traffic as we approached the thorough fare for about one city block in distance. Not one car passed as we walked toward the street. As soon as we were ready to the cross the road, there were 10 cars in a row that halted us. Makes sense…
That leads me to a red light that drives me insane. Some quick backstory: every Wednesday I need to drive about 30 minutes north of our home for a manager’s meeting. The drive is easy once I leave town and get away from the traffic lights. Yet every single Wednesday morning, it never fails. I hit this damn red light about 3 minutes away from my destination.
Whatever I do, I have never ever managed to pass through this intersection on a green light. It’s amazing. I mean, the view isn’t bad while I wait:
Yet still, how is it possible that I get stopped by this red light every single time? Out of curiosity, I counted how many times this has happened since I started my new job. Here’s the chart:
Red lights run into? A perfect 100%. Green lights managed? 0%. How much fun is that?
Part of me thinks that a) this is the universe queuing me on something and b) I have really bad luck. When I see that car one mile ahead of me blow through a green light at that intersection, I do honestly think, “Wow, that person must live a charmed life.” Or something like that.
Eventually, the light turned green after watching everyone else pass on through ahead of me...
Then finally...
Away I sped, a solid three minutes behind schedule thanks to getting stuck by my most favorite red light in all of the world.
So there it is, my weekly rant! I do sometimes wonder why I attract such obstacles in life. Do you too feel like the universe is "out to get you?" Do you feel like you have a red light that gets you every single time? Or are you a fortunate soul to be one who has a "charmed life?" Just curious. Drop a line if any of that makes any sense! Thanks for reading the ramble, as always.
