These days what we see on the social media, our tv screens, in our societies are the impossible standards of beauty which may in one way or the other need us to sacrifice our mental health in order to fit in.
Feelings of insecurities about our bodies are natural and normal. It happens to entirely everyone at a certain phase of our lives. It gets worse when we have partners or friends that don't appreciate our body type, skin, colours, body shapes etc.
These days we see a lot of transgenders, bleaching and whitening of the skin, bbl, liposuction and the rest are too numerous to mention. Society has set these beauty standards, they've made it feel so right and normal so much that if you are not up to these standards, you are a social misfit.
I hear confessions like, I had a ruptured self esteem, I wasn't proud of my skin color not body shape. I wasn't feeling all curvy and light-skinned and beautiful, so I had to get some surgeries done on my Body. So After the surgery, a lot of confidence and self-esteem was gained, wow, not bad.
Also the issue of cross-gender and transgender is so alarming, and it shows how much people don't value their body and body part and wishing to be like another. The New generation will find this habit a social norm or an acceptable habit and behaviour because these celebrities and individuals are littered all over the Media. It's a personal Choice you may say, but these choices are successful and gradually become societal accepted beauty standards.
These teenagers these days don't even know what they want, they fancy everything they see, they would want to go miles just so that they could fit in perfectly without regarding the consequences involved, they don't want to be body-shamed.
There is a need to stress more and more for our children, friends and loved ones to appreciate their bodies and find their own uniqueness out of themselves, that is what makes you different from the others.
