🌅 Good morning.
The morning market always tells a story. One of color, movement, and quiet realities. Today, I found myself back in Opon’s early pop-up market, where fruits shine brighter than worries, at least for a moment.
The day began with a simple goal: a quick grocery run. But mornings in the market are never just that. They are an experience.
Rows of fruits welcomed me like a festival of colors. Greens, yellows, oranges, and deep purples blending into a scene that felt almost too beautiful for an ordinary day. The star apples instantly caught my eye. Their rich purple and green tones looked so fresh, so alive, that I couldn’t help but stop and admire them.
There’s something about seasonal fruits. They don’t just feed the body, they remind you that time moves in cycles. That some things come only once, and you have to be present enough to notice.

The calm before the rush, fresh displays quietly waiting for the first buyers of the day.
Budget vs Temptation
So many choices, but only a few make it into the basket. The 500 Peso used to be enough now feels like a careful balancing act.
Since I came by bicycle, I couldn’t fully explore the wet market. I didn’t know where to safely park, so I stayed near the outer stalls. Every purchase felt rushed. Buy, pay, look back at the bike, repeat. It’s a small inconvenience, but enough to change the whole rhythm of shopping.
Still, I managed to get my essentials: fruits, eggs, vegetables. The basics.
But what stayed with me the most wasn’t the shopping. It was the prices.
I found myself comparing today’s numbers with my last visit. The difference is becoming harder to ignore. With fuel surcharges affecting everything, prices seem to rise faster than we can adjust. A 500-peso budget, once comfortable, now feels tight and limiting.
It changes how you think.
You begin to question every item:
Do I need this?
Can I skip this?
Is this still worth it?
And yet, despite everything, the market remains beautiful.
There is still abundance. Still color. Still life.
I allowed myself a small indulgence, the star apples. They don’t come often, and sometimes, it’s okay to choose joy in small forms.
Moments like this remind me that even in uncertain times, we continue to adapt. We learn to budget better, choose wiser, and appreciate deeper.
The market may reflect rising costs, but it also reflects resilience of sellers, of buyers, of everyday life moving forward.
How about you?
Have you noticed how much your usual budget has changed lately? What small adjustments have you made to cope?
