Market Friday the Tadpole Tearoom in Bridge, Kent UK
Today's #marketfriday will be a market I dearly miss in the UK. I used to go to the UK for Autumn Winter every other year, however, since the world 'changed' recently I've not been on a plane nor in an airport. I hope that will change one day, but for today #marketfriday I'll share one of the little joys of the small village oustide of Canterbury in Kent UK (Southern England)
As you can see, this place was perfect for me, as muddy wellies are often part of my attire.
The Tadpole tea room is in a converted barn building which is still part of a working farm. In the small quaint village of Bridge (where my friends and I had taken a house for the Winter Season) such places would appear to you in the mists of a woodland or at the end of a bridal path.
This darling tearoom had a wonderful Farm shop as well. We would always end our tea with a poke round and a replenish of fresh Duck eggs, (from the ducks quacking right outside) as well as wonderful meats gleaned from local hunters and farmers (Squab and pheasant sausage a favourite of mine)
The "Local Fruitcake" was also scrumptious. You know those eggs are fresh when you can see the muck still on 'em.
My heart goes pitter pat when I see the little banner of union jacks, how I miss it so.
Just outside the tearoom and farm stand (mind you think of ducks and geese, just behind, squawking up a storm and maybe the sound of hooves on a pair of riders going down the road) is this darling cottage. Couldn't you just while away the hours in such a place and the green trim is very English countryside to me. I've tried to match that colour many times, to fulfill my American heart when back at home. Maybe my new Chicken house will have this tone.
The walk back home, after a day out to the tea room and shop, was hardly a traffic jam. Dogs at the heel and rabbits in the hedge, anything you'd think of the bucolic English life, can be found here I find. At the end of this walk , as well, was the local village church in flint and stone...Ah how I miss it so.
I hope you enjoyed my little trip to the market in southern England and thanks to for hosting this lovely friday challenge and for all her hard work.
I hope that all of you find a moment to either go to a wonderful local market or even to dream upon those you've visited in the past.
