Simi is one of those Greek little islands that are true gems. Its distinctive architecture, the colorful decorations and the mesmerizing scenery are only a few of its virtues.
I remember that it was spring time and I was staying in Rhodes, the largest island of the Dodecanese complex. I had heard so much for Simi's beauty and I was looking forward to visit it. We had arranged a day trip that according to the ferry's schedule would let us on the island for about 8 hours. Not the time to fully enjoy it, but enough to see pretty much everything and take tons of pictures. It is a very small island after all. But we didn't calculate a small detail.
It was raining :(
Obviously we skipped the beaches and we started visiting the numerous businesses that are there to satisfy any of your needs and help you lighten your wallet :)
Either under a kiosk or in a shop there are plenty of goodies to purchase, tasty or tasteful it's your choice!
And I have to admit that for a plan b it was quite fun!
The sign above says "TRADITIONAL PASTRY MAKING - NIKOLAS" and I'll add "DO NOT ENTER IF YOU AVOID CLUTTEN AND SUGAR" :)
But for everybody else it resembles to a small pastry heaven!
No you are not in Italy but Greeks appreciate a good pizza as much as their Latin neighbors and a nice Italian restaurant is a must for any self-respecting touristic place!
Those two adorable guys below, tried to introduce us to the concept of molecular gastronomy. I am grateful for their efforts but I understood pretty much nothing :)
Their plates though look amazing!
Although we didn't intended to spend the night there, we couldn't leave without having a quick peek in a local guest house. Inside and outside it was dreamy. I just loved that traditional bed - closet. If only that not so traditional tv could disappear :)
The sign above says "PANTELIS". It is the name of the best (in my humble opinion) tavern and also the name of the owner, a very cheerful fellow and a great cook! Of course I didn't try the food in all the restaurants of the island in my short visit but I did enjoyed that epic seafood pasta and I left Simi with a smile on my face :)
I meant to write this post last night for #MarketFriday but I was too tired and went to bed early. Nevertheless I hope that won't mind if I share this with you with a small delay. Anyway, if I am not mistaken, in Baker Island is still Friday (very late) night :)
All the pictures and the words are mine.
