For this week's #MarketFriday post, I've set a little challenge for myself. I felt like doing something different.
After giving it some thought, I decided to do some evening photos. The venue I chose was The Point Waterfront in Durban, focusing on the Zulumoon Gondola boat rides. It is being advertised as a "Magical Night Gondola Boat Ride" on their website, gondola.co.za.
I checked online and I learned that "Magic Night Boat Rides" as they call them, are between 18h00 and 20h00.
Seeing that I have never done something like this before, we left early. I wanted to be there just after 18h00. Currently, we still have daylight until relatively late. Getting there at about 18h00 would still level me with ample daylight to take some photos.
I wanted to take some photos while we still had some daylight, just in case my evening photos turned out to be a failure. Then I would at least still have something to work with.
I started taking photos at about 18h30.
Just after 19h00, my wife told me to take a look at the moon. I turned around, and yes, the first "light" was on...lol.
Shortly after that, the lights started coming on along the canals too...
Although we still have daylight until relatively late in the day, when it starts getting dark, it gets dark quite quickly. Keep this in mind and you'll see what I mean shortly.
We started our walk at the furthest end, taking a walk up toward the starting point of the canal as darkness started setting in.
Along the way, we walked past these palm trees.
About halfway up toward the starting point, this gondola boat slowly came by, with a couple enjoying the ride and the views. According to the time stamp of this photo, the time was 19h10 (take note of the time).
Darkness was setting in quickly. Looking back at where we came from.
This is what it looked like where we were walking. The lights started creating a nice, pleasant atmosphere in the darkness around us.
The starting point of the canal, where we were heading, became visible.
Arriving at the starting point, we found all the pedal boats neatly secured for the night.
Remember the couple that passed us earlier (at 19h10)? Well, they have completed their ride and arrived back at the starting point. According to the time stamp of this photo, this was at 19h25.
Do you remember what I said earlier about darkness setting in quickly once it starts getting dark?
Well, look how dark it was now compared to when we saw them the first time...in a matter of 15 minutes.
I loved the view/scene/atmosphere that the moon created through the clouds...
My last photo is looking down the canal for the last time before our walk came to an end.
And with that our walk came to an end after walking along the canal for about 1,5 hours. All that time wasn't consistent walking from start to end though.
Earlier on, we sometimes wandered off toward the beach (while there was still enough daylight) and sometimes we just spent some time in one place, taking some photos.
But it was fun.
To enjoy a Magic Night Boat Ride, will cost you R280.00 per couple for a 30-minute ride. The exchange rate at the time of writing this post is R17.86 for $1.00.
That means you will pay $15.68 per couple for your 30-minute ride.
That's it for today, folks.
Thank you for reading my post! I do appreciate it!
