It has been a while since I posted here! π Shoutout to for supporting the community!
I thought of sharing my shopping adventure with my friends from overseas. I want to show a typical supermarket in the Philippines. π΅ππ₯¬
The supermarket opens at 9 in the morning and I prefer buying my stuff at the opening time because I want to avoid the surge of people. I still have my mask on and my alcohol handy just to make sure I don't get the virus or sickness on me. You can never be sure.
Let me get my basket at the entrance. There is a choice of picking the handheld basket or with the wheels to push around. Since I had to buy worth of a week's food, I opted for the pushcart. And sorry, I don't have strong arms to carry the basket! π I was just getting what were missing or running out on my fridge and pantry.
I skipped the fruit section for now since I have some kiat-kiat and bananas. Also, I do not like wasting fruit as I sometimes forget to eat them. π
Staples on my fridge are eggs and bread. I eat bread in the morning when I am in a rush or just too lazy to cook my breakfast. I am not a big breakfast eater but I want something on my tummy. I usually toast Fuwa Fuwa bread and spread butter and honey together. I got the smaller package for myself just the right number of slices for one week.π
Yakult feels nostalgic to me because this was an all-time favorite probiotic drink when I was a kid. I wonder why they came in smaller sizes. π Another brand that I like is Delight. This one is 400 ML, 70 calories per 100 ML. Ya know, I need some good bacteria for my tummy. π
Fridges of frozen goods. Since I do not cook that much, I rely upon this not-so-good food π I know, I know! Don't you worry, my mom makes sure I eat home-cooked food.
I got one pack of pork dumplings (making sure no shrimp is on the ingredients) and one pack of pork katsu. Too messy to make from scratch. I am planning to make Kimchi-jjigae with fried dumplings and Japanese curry with pork katsu.
I was having second thoughts about buying these pre-cooked meals. I wanted to get Rico's lechon, but I feel like it will not be that crispy since it was frozen already. Also, I can just get freshly cooked meals from food deliveries but will incur more expense. π They also have dinuguan, laing, caldereta, and pork BBQ.
Section for fish goods. These are the dried and smoked fish. Usually, these are for breakfast. The reason for Filipinos to have an outside kitchen is because of the stinkiness of this food. But trust me! These are super good with tomatoes or vinegar dip!
Sausages, bacon, pork cuts, ground beef, etc.
I got 1/4 kilo of ground beef for my kimchi-jjigae or some meatballs, just a lump of reserved meat just in case I ran out of ideas of what to cook. I still have sausages so I had to skip buying it for now.
Chicken meat section
Here, you can choose your meat precut for you. You have the option too to get a whole chicken and specifically instruct the staff on the cut you want. I got the Magnolia whole chicken and had it cut for adobo.
The aisle of carbonated drinks, and fake juices. π Let's say I just drink them occasionally. Too much sugar content in a bottle. Just thinking about it makes me want to drink water. π Drink water if you happen to read this part. Hahah!
Good thing there are shelves for water! π§
I was looking for gloves with a good length to cover my arms when I am cleaning. 𧽠I was supposed to order online for a cheaper price but I cannot wait any longer. Also, I can check the size and length here physically to avoid the trouble of returning the item just in case I got the wrong size.
Aisle of instant coffees and milk
I am not an everyday coffee drinker, but I do love coffee! βοΈ π I only drink coffee when I need to be wide awake all day like having a long meeting or need my full focus. I am scared of being dependent on caffeine and eventually will not affect me. So, I sort to hot cocoas instead. Milo has a lot of sugar content, so I banned that in my cupboard. I like dark chocolate Swiss Miss and Hershey's Cocoa for everyday sugar intake.
Time to change my bedroom slides. I like the plain beige pair but they do not have my size. π« No choice but to pick the leopard prints. Not my style, but okay... Pffs~
Today I was tested by a pink insulated tumbler! π₯² Nope! I got to get to the checkout counter quickly! π I got three tumblers at home so another one will just take a space.
I think I got what I need for the whole week. I already had some produce so I just took what was needed. I only got what I needed and did not want this time. As a young adult, I closely monitor and account for all my savings and expenses. π I am saving for something big so training myself to have a tight budget will benefit me soon.
I brought my eco bag to save some cents and avoid accumulating plastic bags in my cupboard. As I age, I am more mindful of the environment and how it will affect future generations.
Here I am at the checkout counter and I freaking forgot to buy carrots and white onions! π₯² Why does my memory come back when I am already almost done shopping? I also forgot my point card, damn. π
Total expense is PHP 1,900 (33.72 USD) for 15 items.
That is it for this blog. Thanks for reading~ π
