Hi all 👋🏻
My second post in your community this Friday for the #MarketFriday by / Denise will take you to the well known town of Marbella in sunny southern Spain 🇪🇸 ☀️
It’s always busy and lots of tourists around there.
‼️If you want to know more about #MarketFriday’s have a look At this post about it from @dswigle you find also the rules what to post.
Last weekend, 21 of April 2022 to be precise, we visited the “old town” of Marbella. All photographs are taken with my iPhone.
Marbella and it’s old town is located on Google maps:
The yellow circle shows the old town we will be wandering around 😁
A larger view of it along the coast.
As we don’t live near it, we drove by car to Marbella.
Along the way I saw this bridge, fully dressed up with green plants. How wonderful 🥰
After parking at one end of the town we started walking towards the old town. It was a 17 minute walk along the boulevard next to the Mediterranean Sea 🌊 ☀️
Let me show you what we saw and did that day and take you along.
Around the corner from where we parked we see these interesting architectural buildings, with plants on every level. Also the streets are beautifully maintained.
Reaching the boulevard we walk further and see closer to the port these views. Behind the little platform that is sticking out… We see one of the protected beaches where lots of people go to, to swim. It’s more like a little man made bay. It is shallow too, so the little ones can play safely in the water.
Didn’t want to take a photo closer by, to invade in the peoples privacy… 😉
Next we walk over a large plaza to cross the main road, busy road through the town, to reach the old town. Just before it we have a beautiful, old… I mean matured, park. Tall trees provide much needed shade in the summer months. In it we see this fountain and many benches to rest on.
Passing it we cross the road. Yes we reached old town. Let the fun begin. 🤩
The first little shop we see on our walk around is this touristy shop. Keep in mind, all is catered to the tourists here 😉 but it is still nice to visit and as it is early in the summer season it won’t be tooooo busy yet. The right time for us to go 😎
We find also many clothing shops that have a wide variety of summer dresses already on show.
Nope I didn’t go shopping here 😉💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻
We walked past this hat shop and on the wall it had very cleverly put up some great decorations, so you look twice. We see some colourful chairs dressed up with flowers. (Not all are real, but that doesn’t matter. It’s still pretty to see)
We are passing by some restaurants that are setting up for lunch time. They are not open yet, officially. Once it hits 1300h all will be full of people eating lunch. We wander a bit further before we go for lunch.
I have a little surprise for you, something I didn’t know about… in one of the back streets of the old town.
We found a museum. Not having planned anything and lunch would be a little later. I was looking inside as something caught my eye 😉 the door was wide open. So nosey me peaked in 🤣
The glass door opened while I was doing this.
Next to me I saw this sign, telling me it was a contemporary art museum. While I was reading it…
…the guard that was sitting behind a table in the back came out. I asked him what exhibition would be inside. He told me Picasso, Miro and a few others… he had me at Picasso already 😎
He also told us it is free to come in and started explaining about the building. It used to be the old Bazán Hospital. The architecture is from the 16th century. That it had Renaissance arches and how we could walk the tour around best. It was a 3 floor high building and lots of exhibition areas.
I said; it would be a pleasure to come in and have a look. He let us pass 😁 it turned out we were the only ones there 🤓
More information in Spanish you can find In the Museums website here.
In the entrance we see this statue.
I love it… wouldn’t mind owning something like this 😎🥰 I am an art collector btw. So it wouldn’t be something I wouldn’t do normally. So far my collected artworks are paintings, limited edition prints, first edition books etc. 🤓 I show you one day… if you want!
As we walk up the first stairs we see that this exhibition is displayed.
The first room we start in has works of Picasso. He was born in Málaga Spain so the people hold him close to their hearts.
A larger painting from him on the wall.
I’m not a fan of contemporary art but I still appreciate it and like looking at it. To discover how the artist created it and what he was trying to say.
In the middle of the room we find this old press:
Very interesting to see how they used to work on it. And some artists still use it today.
As we progress further and get higher up in the building I see this work of Oswaldo Guayasamin. Very powerful in my opinion 😎
I didn’t take many photos inside as it’s not really a thing to do… I only show you the few I did take. 😁 the rest we just enjoyed all the exhibition pieces… quietly.
Walking past these cute piggies… we leave the museum.
If you are visiting Marbella one day. Do have a look at this Museum in Calle Hospital Bazán, Marbella, Málaga. It’s beautifully taken care of and exhibits some really interesting works.
On our way out we got this card from an artist that had works on the ground floor… you could see behind the statue I loved.
Let’s continue our walk through the little streets of Marbella old town now.
You see little shops everywhere.
On the wall next to us we see these beautiful tiles. Do you remember my post from last Friday? I showed you all the tiles in Sevilla.
Here in this town you will see them too.
Flamenco dancers 💃🏻🕺🏻 A famous dance here.
Some beautiful landscape and cityscape scenes that can be found in Spain. I think I recognise some Sevilla landmarks. As you maybe might know, most decorative tiles do come from there.
Next we see this shop with all the cute little flamenco dresses for kids.
More stores catering the little ones.
A little bit further we see you can personalise some items to bring back from your holidays.
Are you getting hungry already?
Let’s find something to eat…
We walk past this water fountain. With drinking water if you are thirsty… but this is not for us. Let’s walk a little bit further.
Through this street with many clothing stores… all are cute and small.
Yes, finally… a restaurant that just finished setting up. We have been here before and it is one of our favourite places to go to. Let me show you. 😎
We ordered some cold drinks, as we had been walking for a while and it was rather hot with it being 27 degrees Celsius we needed some sugary drinks… 7up and Cola it was.
We ordered some tapas too. 😁 while we were waiting…
I took these photographs for you.
The little restaurant’s name: La Tasca de Santi.
It’s the red door, the sides are not part of it. It’s rather small.
Their website and Menu you can find here!
The menu is too large to put all pages in this post, but if you are curious, have a look 😎😁
Under the umbrellas they put up some fresh plants…
Next to me also beautiful flowers.
After our Tapas… yes, sorry… I forgot to photograph the little dishes hahaha 🤣 will try next time… I promise 😁 we got our bill.
As you can see we got one main dish… being the Gambas PilPil and 3 tapas with some bread.
Our bill altogether was €31,50
And believe me… worth every penny. This is real home cooked dishes. Small little restaurant with only about 10 tables. The stews… like the bulls tail is just to dream of. 😎😉 go early to get a seat.
Now we wander a few more streets before we are heading back to our car… don’t worry I show you a little bit more. Are you still with me?
This is a new shop… I haven’t seen before here.
Let’s have a look what they have.
We enter….
They sell clothes, accessories for the house. Blankets and much more.
It looks handmade, and the price tag does tell me that too.
There are quite some items I wouldn’t mind looking at, but as we are about to move… I don’t want to add to our belongings. So I refrain from buying today.
Well done me hahaha 😇
Such a cute things you can see in the shop.
The cactus accessories would look great next to my self built tables with pallet wood. 😎 some even have lights in them.
But we leave… after a round through the shop.
We walk back towards the car now and do this not along the boulevard now, but the back streets to have a bit more shade from trees. We walk under these purple flowers… they are beautiful. But oooo soooo sticky on the cars.
We see a few pigeons enjoying some seeds somebody just gave them.
Let me show you all the flowers we pass by now.
First we see this tree with roots tight all around it.
Then this beautiful and bright display of flowers 🌺🌸🌼
Zooming out…
Walking through the last street…
In every colour possible 🌺🌺🌺
Such a stunning sight.
And the bird of paradise flowers…
We reached the car… 🚗🚗🚗 thank you for coming along 😁
