I felt like a little girl walking into her favourite toy store when we drove through the gates of the rustic and very charming Blackwoods Nursery in Assagay; a countryside suburb known as horse country with smallholdings, farmhouses and gated estates.
The name of the village of Assagay means an amaXhosa throwing spear and was named such as it is situated on the original farm Assagay Kraal.
This nursery abounds with colour and beauty; exotic as well as indigenous plants on sale.
I would have spent hours there if we had the time, but of course that's a scarce commodity, even for a #silverblogger!
A red Kale Songbird which is an ornamental plant, but apparently can be eaten except for the roots which are poisonous. We took a couple of these plants home.
Sadly our restaurants can't operate as normal under the new lockdown rules and I'm not too keen to go shopping too often at the moment, but thankfully there are many safe open-air places to go to like this nursery.
Of course the garden tools, seeds, bird feeders and the like are housed indoors, but there were not too many shoppers around so we were safe. Who would ever have thought that we would one day be walking around all masked up when we approached another human being? Sounds quite crazy, but that's how life has been since the year 2020!
My mind boggled at the varied seeds on sale; all I took were some edible flower seeds; hoping I'll be able to share those with you when they're hopefully flourishing one of these days.
Bird feeders in all kinds of designs, but unfortunately the mischievous monkeys that roam through our garden searching for food, have broken many a bird feeder in our garden in an attempt to get to the garden bird seed!
Ornamental creatures great and small that will add a fun touch to any garden.
And then the plants, of which there were many; old favourites like the Poinsettia, Pansies, Petunias, stunning Orchids as well as many other plants I had never seen.
The flowering shrub, Poinsettia
Pretty Pansies, which we also took home.
Grandma's Petunias
Stunning Orchids
Bromeliad
Do you see why I was so excited walking through this nursery? Wait till you see the succulents and the cacti!
I would have gone home with a truckload if I could, but someone has to pay for all of this and we still have not managed to find a money tree ;)
Almost look like some weird kind of prickly cupcakes from outer space not so ;)
We saw a real creative idea to hide tree roots that start protruding above the ground, as our wild plum tree is doing, so will be doing something like this soon as nothing will grow under that tree any longer and paving is out of the question..
A pretty wall feature was tempting me as well!
Gorgeous Lettuce plants looking so healthy!
I'm not sure what these are called, but pretty they are for sure!
I really felt like I was walking through the garden of Eden with so many temptations all around; just loved this place and we'll certainly be back to show you some more next time for 's #MarketFriday, hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.
One last close up view of some pretty Pansies.
