Today, I started my oncology posting and I discovered that a lot of people have cancers.
Mind you this is the third time I am being posted to a department that deals with cancer.
February 4 was world cancer day and was thinking of writing a post to educate the community on cancers and how we can battle against this demeaning disease.
Well, the post is underway.
I just want to point out something.
Breast cancer is very common. Out of the 6 surgeries that we did today 5 out of them had breast issues and 2 out of the 6 had breast cancer.

Breast cancer is not preventable. However, it can be caught early by regular breast examination. It doesn't cost anything to do a breast examination. It takes less than five minutes.
Stand at the front of a mirror and do a self-breast examination.

If you can't do that, do a mastectomy. Angelina Jolie did it and she is still alive and well.
Another way of preventing is by doing screening once you are above 40.
A mammogram every year alongside with self-examination will go a long way in preventing the disease.
Finally, if you ever feel a lump report to the nearest tertiary facility for it to be examined.
Breast cancer is one disease that has a high mortality and morbidity rate.
On that note, I say good night and thank you for reading.
