The juice is back in my pocket 🔋
I have been using the same iPhone since Christmas of 2018. It is still in perfect condition in every single way besides a malnourished battery. I have been running degraded for nearly a year now, which means below 80% battery health in Apple terms. This hasn't been a major concern besides my phone dying quicker than usual and taking longer to charge. That is, until yesterday.
My phone suddenly was unable to stay powered on and would get stuck in the respring animation every single time after I restarted it. This lasted for about half an hour and then I immediately started searching on my desktop for where I could get my battery replaced quickly. Luckily that is an incredibly simple task. I went to https://support.apple.com/iphone/repair/service/battery-power and started the battery replacement process. I got lucky and there was an appointment available in just an hour over at Geek Squad inside of my local Best Buy.
This is all you need to do after you schedule your appointment. Very simple steps and most will already be done if you are smart with your devices out of habit.
It took about 2 hours for the geeks to get finished replacing my battery. I just went to the gym while they were working and came back. To my surprise, the cost was cheaper than I had envisioned. $70 was total and I previously expected things to run me at least $100. I had been putting this off for so long, but let me tell you how much of a game-changer a new battery is for your slightly older, yet still very useable smartphone.
Of course, now I don't have to worry about always having a charger nearby. I can easily get through an entire day without having to recharge with my normal daily use. Sure, sometimes I may use my iPhone more and have to recharge by early evening, but that is less likely to happen and when it does, it will be much easier to manage.
Oh yeah, my phone actually turns on and doesn't lock up anymore. The most important part right here. Being without a phone is a weird feeling. It is obviously very freeing and a weight off of your shoulders. However, there is no denying that we have all become reliant on our devices, some more than others. I personally rely on my iPhone and iMac to pay the bills and put food on the table, so having a sick phone with a bad battery is like having bronchitis in some well-kept lungs.
Just look at the before and after numbers. From 79% to 100% health. My phone used to constantly remind me about an Important Battery Message. Now I can scroll in peace knowing that my trusty iPhone XS from all the way back in 2018 is still alive and well in 2022, nearly 4 whole years later after I began using it.
